Nice thread JC! I like both to win the State Championships in 3A and 4A respectively. It won't be easy though.

It is definitely possible and would make for a great story. I would love to see it happen. Smith family reunion in BG first weekend in December.

Interesting thought.

On the subject, how many Father Son Combos are even out there coaching?

I know the Larkey's... anyone else?

That's an interesting question as well and I don't know the answer to it.

I know there has been fathers and sons coaching in different time frames ie: Sam Clark coached at Monroe county in late 80's to mid 90's and his son David Clark is at Bardstown now.

I think the Young Smith has a better chance of winning than the Elder Smith does.

Agree it would be a great story!

Not disagreeing but explain if you don't mind. Curious...

Both have great teams and are rolling through everyone at the moment.

Not at same time but the Morris family has father and son who both won multiple state titles @ Mayfield. 9 titles between them

Toothpick, this is interesting. How many years between when the dad stepped down and when the son took over? I anticipate the son didn't take over right after the dad left coaching. Correct?

No. Paul Leahy coached for 3 or 4 years and won 2 state championships.

3A's patch is a lot harder/ tougher that 4A. So I can only see SW winning.

The elder Morris retired after the 92 campaign. Paul Leahy took over in 93 and retired after the 98 campaign. The elder Morris, Jack, last won a title in 1986. Son, Joe Morris, won his first title in 2002. Jack Morris won titles in 77,78,85,86. Joe Morris won titles in 02,10,12,13,14. So a 16 year gap between titles for father and son with 6 of those campaigns being led by Paul Leahy who won 2 titles in 6 campaigns as the Cards commander and chief. The Morris clan has a first cousin Jeff Morris, who is the head coach at Milan, TN and he has atleast 2 state titles himself. I once heard Joe Morris say that Christmas Dinner was always a fun rivalry amongst the 3 for bragging rights.

I think the Young Smith has a better chance of winning than the Elder Smith does.
Don't know much about South Warren but I know Boyle Co. is one of the top teams in the State never mind classification. The only unknown for me is How good is Belfry? If Boyle doesn't have any key injuries I think they will win 3A hands down.

Brandon Smithbis in his second year at Spurh Warren. Last year he went 13-1 in 3a with loss in semis to Lousiville Central 16-14.

This year South moved to 4A and beat John Hardin 43-12, Apollo 42-6, Greenwood 43-7 and las week beat Central Hardin 24-3.

Over last three years his defense has led or been near top in all defensive categories.

Also BGPerps has them ranked 2 in class and AP has them ranked 1.
