This may have already been addressed, but when was the last time Trinity lost a varsity football game by this wide of a margin?

 

I know nothing about Male or Trinity this year, but if I had to bet on who would win a postseason rematch between these two teams and my life was riding on it, I would bet on Trinity without blinking (no offense to Male, or any other team in KY).

2013 was close with a difference of 28 against Moeller, but the last time it was surpassed was 2009 in a 43-13 game against St. X (Cincy).

In 2005 T lost to X 48-16, returned the favor 14-6 In playoffs.

In 2006 T lost to X 24-15, returned the favor 34-28ot in state championship game.

In 2007 T lost to X 30-6, returned the favor 28-21 in playoffs.

In 2005 & 2007 the games weren't even close as the the score, X man handled T from the snap in both those games, and the stats reflected the same. The Male game T was in it in the first half and missed an extra point and field goal, that could have made it 21-17, and technically was only out gained in the game by 100yds in the stats. I compare these games because X was the better team in all three instances, and we're heavy favorites in the second game and T pulled it off. So T has shown in the past that they do a good job adjusting and game planning in the rematch, and by comparison this a much more talented of a team than those past T teams I mentioned.

Male's defense is the biggest story of this game. They manhandled Trinity's offensive line, and they were faster and more athletic than Trinity's receivers. I'd like to know how many times the Bulldogs didn't have someone in the backfield giving pressure on pass plays. It wouldn't have been a very big number. Trinity's offense wasn't able to keep the defense off the field enough, and come the second half of the ballgame, the Shamrock defense got tired. That's why it went from a 21-13 score at the half to 42-13 final score. An offense HAS to keep their defense on the sideline as much as possible, and that just wasn't the case for Trinity on Friday night.

 

Also, All Tell was right - Trinity didn't lose the game because of bad officiating, by any means, but the officiating was the pits.

 

One more thing...I was disappointed by the number of personal fouls I saw called on Male, AND by several uncalled personal fouls on Male. If the Bulldogs are a team that is going to be getting national attention and coverage, I sure hope they can give off a better image of high school sportsmanship in Kentucky than what I saw from them on Friday night.

Great analysis, CWB. 21-13 at half and HOGG mentioned the missed PAT and missed FG. Things were ugly in the first half but the Rocks still managed to get into the locker room only down by a TD. Should have been 21-17. If I'm not mistaken, the first 2 Male TD's were set up by a partially blocked punt and Interception. Again, I think they had a total of 35-40 yards of offense and went up 14-0. That was huge right out of the gate. Rocks never seemed to recover.

 

You simply can't let Male play with momentum the WHOLE night. You have to steal momentum from them somewhere and the Rocks couldn't do it last Friday. Coach Wolf hit the nail on the head in the paper...he thought T had the momentum going into the locker room at half and he was thankful to get the ball in 2nd half. He was stressing to his kids the importance of scoring coming out in 2nd half - and boy did they execute!!

 

I agree...would like to see BOTH teams clean up some of the personal fouls and chippy play. The officiating didn't impact the outcome but also agree it was average at best. CSAA basketball officials...some of you know what I'm talking about. Questionable calls on both teams - and usually missed some of the most obvious.

 

Best of luck to the Dogs rest of the way. Sure hope we get another shot.

Didn't get a chance to say Congrats to the Bulldogs! Really big win for momentum purposes. I look for at least 1 let up game before the playoffs. Not saying they will lose, just sayin they will have a closer game against a lesser foe. It just happens.

Sore losers? You mean like when Male won in the regular season last year they danced all over our emblem at midfield then when they lost in the playoffs all they wanted to do is fight? Is that what you mean by sore losers? I stayed till the end and watched all of our players walk across the field and congratulate Male on a great game, and I too congratulate Male on a well played game, no clue where you are getting the sore loser part. I'm for one elated the state championship is once again going to be something you have to EARN, I believe we'll be up for the challenge come playoff time, Go Rocks!!

And no, I was not one of the few to stay till the very end... there were plenty of Trinity parents, fans & students there till our team exited the field.
