This is actually a huge Win! Quiet are the people that were criticizing Highlands middle School team last year when Campbell put a running clock on them. Remember what I said about what would happen when Highlands combined all 3(Red-White-Blue) Middle School teams into 1. The Highlands Frosh team is very good. The best one I have seen in about 5 or so years.

 

This tells me Highlands won't be "down" for long.

I coach in the 7/8th grade FTJFL and there is some serious talent in the current 8th grade class as well about to come through.

Highlands has POTENTIAL "Game Changers" coming up. Anything can happen, but the ceiling is pretty darn high for a few of them.

You might hold off on ordering the championship rings. The Camels did their share in making the Baby Birds look good. Seven turnovers, a ball snapped out of the end zone for a safety, plus a couple of other fumbles that the Camels recovered, and several bad snaps made it tough to get much of an offense going. In spite of all that I would not be surprised if the Camels had more total offense than the Birds. FWIW Camels won the second half 6 to zip. Not sure if the birds had more than a couple of first downs in the 2nd. Camels moved the ball down the field until they turned it over. I don't think Campbell County punted the whole game.

You're correct. The Birds left too many of those turnovers on the field which should have been converted into scores. The Camels played 4 quarters of football. They have good size and good athletes. Bright future for Coach Lickert.

Turnovers are part of the game especially when they are forced. Credit the Birds defense and let's not get down on the Camels. Helton showed signs of having a very bright future as a QB. Poor snaps did play a major part in deflating some drives though. The interceptions I witnessed were excellent plays by the Bird secondary. In fact one was made by a kid 8 inches shorter than the Camel receiver. He simply wanted the ball more and ran side by side with him. The other was in the end zone by Bracken and it was a great pick primarily caused by excellent pressure on Helton. A couple fumbles were forced by some hard hitting and the chop from behind by Huddleston was as good a football play that you will see.

 

With that said, I do want to give props to Tanner Lawrence of CC as he was the best defensive player on the field last night. Great size, speed and tenacious. He was in on more than a dozen tackles, probably closer to 20. Bright future for the Camels, they have a very good class.
