Thanks for the info! It will be very interesting to see how it is decided where the county students will go, especially those who are a little more skilled at shooting a basketball or toting the rock...

Please don't take offense jpa...I heard straight from Muellers mouth that after 4 titles they would attain 4 more. I simply took that to mean he would see that through...I do believe that he "gave" a state title to BW, knowing that the coming seasons would be lean on true talent...and never did I say Birds were all done, I'm simply saying what everyone else is saying...anyone who can put up the points...will, and that time looks to be starting...

I am more than honored to have had my child go through the education and the athletics at HHS. Top notch program(s) w/ top notch life learning coaching. Too bad the majority of the HHS crowd doesn't truly root & holler for their team like most...on a continuous basis(football speaking). KY football is way too watered down w/ too many classes.

Honestly speaking without those watered down classes HHS doesn't win a third of those trophies.you have to admit that it has made it easier.

And Johnson Central, and Covington Catholic, and Boyle County, and Lexington Catholic, and Owensboro, et al are all wondering where their watered down titles are ...

Are you saying that Dale decided to retire after the 2012 or 2013 season?

Please explain and let us know the years they wouldn't have won the ones they did. It's a moot point because we'll never know. But I'd like to hear which ones they wouldn't have won. Cause you said a third of them right? When did the "watering down" start. Meaning how many does the "third" you are referring to account for?

Even if you are right and the classes made it easier...that doesn't mean they don't still have those titles. To your point... It may have just been a lil tougher.

How many would you have if , Trinity, Male, St. X, Scott county and HHS were in the sane class. Yeah a little tougher.

What????? We are going to compare the largest 6A schools to HHS and make this statement? Good lord my friend, your hatred speaks volumes. At no point in time would/should HHS be in the same classification as these schools whether there are 6 or whether there are 4. Never happened then and will never happen in the future. Highlands has won each and every state title that they have on the football field. Along the way they have defeated Trinity, Male and Scott County in years of state championships. If they played these teams every year, they may lose more than they win, but it would have "zero" impact on whether or not Highlands ultimately won the title in the class in which they played.

A poster eluded to the classes being watered down. All I'm saying is that helped HHS being so dominate. If there we three classes what class would you fall in . Even 4. If your 5a you would probably be in the top class and have to compete with those perennial powerhouses. It would have impacted your ability to win so many times. So while he's complain about the watered down classes he's also lessening the ability to win championships. It's your fan. I just thought my comment was an obvious observation.

Pretty sure there isn't a state in the nation that h and those teams would be put together. And highlands would still have won 10-12 state championships if there was just one class in ky. Which should be embarrassing to 6a schools. 98&00 HHS undoubtably would have beatn anyone in the state for instance. And T didn't turn into a small college until 2002 or so. H champs teams would take them 2/3 of the time before then.

When there were 4 classes of football in Kentucky, Highlands started off in 2A and then enrollment put them in 3A which they were in for as long as I can remember. If there were ever only 3 classes, that was way before my time. When classes expanded to 6, Highlands petitioned to play in 5A in order that they could have a district of teams that were local like CovCath and Dixie. Then the mandate came down that you had to play in the class in which you belonged for several years which was 4A. They then petitioned to move to 5A this go around for pretty much the same reasons that they did in the past. To be honest, a lot of the reason for moving up was that is where CovCath was playing.

The 1982 HHS team actually defeated the 4A state champion in the Recreation Bowl to start that season. That is one year that I know for a fact that HHS could clearly say that they were the overall State Champion.

That was the same year that Moeller won state in Ohio and several guys I met that played there would have like to play HHS, but all parties agreed that it would probably have been a game for a half and then size and depth would have taken over.

Cannot remember if there were other years along the way where Highlands actually defeated the larger school champion.

I do not know when Dale decided to do what he did. In 2011, the statement of 4 more state titles came out of his mouth. I assumed he would be the one at the helm. He knew that the title for 2015 was the birds to win...and win...big...they did!!! under coach bw.

Doesn't matter what coach Mueller did or didn't do...or when he decided. He did what he did! He's forever on top of the mountain. Had he coached at ANY other school, they would have reaped many rewards also. Withrow loves him for turning there program around in one season.
