If a coach punishes against a non-district opponent he had better punish against a district opponent. Otherwise, he's a fraud.

I am saying that if you believe in the reason for the punishment the opponent shouldn't matter. Otherwise, just punish them with running.

Nope, just saying that if something like this is to happen that it is better for the team to happen now. But IMO if you punish now then you punish in week 8 or in the playoffs or you have no credibility with your team.

I'll answer this way. Last season one of these kids lost his starting spot for the semifinals and finals because of being disciplined for an improper use of social media. The stakes couldn't have been any higher. That shows tremendous consistency by the coaches and a strict adherence to their convictions.

This specific example also eludes to the fact that this suspension may be longer than a game as well.

 

It wouldn't surprise me to see both kids back for NewCath... I also wouldn't be shocked to see either kid lose their starting job for the rest of the season.

I'm just thankful Belfry provided some discipline.

I know. I was answering your general question with a specific example of how one coaching staff handled it. (properly, IMO)

 

Here is a general answer: If you aren't consistent and fair in handing down discipline, you will find yourself in a position where it is hard to explain yourself. Either to your kids, or to the man in the mirror. Two things that shouldn't matter is 1. Who the kid is or what position he plays and 2. Who your opponent is or the effect of your decision on wins and losses.
