Without giving too many details here is what I can say:

 

The violation is what I would consider "nothing major" and truth be told if this happened at a good number of schools there would be no thread started and probably not even anything more than a couple kids running steps until they puke.

Brings up a good question here. At what point does team violations leading to games missed balance up against hurting the team as a whole for the season.

 

Im not against sending a message to players, but what if suspending the player (or even players) dramatically hurts your team and their chances against an opponent?

If something like this is going to happen, now before the district portion of the schedule is the time for it to happen.
