I do not believe it was people disrespecting Cooper, but more of people predicting a big win by HHS by their past decade of dominance. They expect Highlands to never have a down year. well it happens to all teams and in High School teams can have a huge change in a year. A lot of people had no idea of numbers Cooper had returning and looked at 5A as a weak class last year. You can not completely judge either team by last week. If Highlands continues to play like they have in scrimmage and week 0, the win will be pretty meaningless for Cooper and the rest of the big games on their schedules will determine if the have earned appropriate respect. If Highlands wins their next 5 games (a big if) and Cooper continues to win,than maybe Cooper is the real deal. At this point however, I think most people feel Cooper (a good team) caught Highlands during a down year.

What if Cooper really is a really good team and highlands is on a down year? Does that make Cooper any less of a team than they are? When HHS would put running clocks on teams...does that make HHS any less of a team because they played against a team that wasn't very good?

 

Cov Cath fans would get on me in the past saying basically the same thing. They haven't won anything yet are always among the top in rankings right below HHS every year. Why should they get the high rankings when they can't beat HHS and the respect that comes along with it and a team that does beat HHS doesn't. That is what I mean.

 

Listen, fans have been saying for years that no schools will schedule HHS and no one is as good as HHS. HHS even started out as #1 in NKY. Then the minute someone does schedule them and beats them it has to be surrounded by excuses as to why the team that beat them still doesn't earn respect for what they've accomplished over just the last 4 years. Just doesn't hold much water. You even admit that people looked at 5A as a weak class, never understood that but it is what it is...but maybe 4A has been a weaker class over the years. I mean 7 of the last 8 years HHS has won the title with little competition yet the first time another NKY school schedules them outside their district they beat the Birds. Maybe, just maybe, 4A has been a pretty weak class seeing how what some thought was a weak 5A class just thumped the 4A champions.

 

The 2014 Class 5A semi finalist team just beat the 2014 4A class state champions 37-13. Maybe people needed to rethink which class is the weak class...just sayin

That is why I wonder what a new team only 7 years old who has won everything except a state title has to do to earn respect. When you said they had to play HHS to earn respect it kind of sounded a little off, I hope you see that now.

 

Again, 2 Regional Championships in the last 4 years (I don't know for sure but outside highlands I can't think of another team that has done that in NKY except maybe NCC)

Well that reason went out the door and now teams want to play Highlands and Highlands would much rather play them than driving 3 to 4 hours away to play a game.

No it is not proven wrong. I am telling you that coaches in NKY would NOT play Highlands unless they absolutely had to. I do have friends/relatives/associates that have and/or do coach in NKY and it has been stated more than once. What excuses are you talking about?

 

It is like you want everyone to bow down and treat Cooper as the next dynasty. Play the next play, the next game and let the chips fall. My ego driven arrogant personality is headed to the stadium now.
