Coach Andrew Coverdale is the new offensive coordinator at Trinity!

Featured Replies

If I were a betting man, I would put a pretty hefty sum down that Coach Coverdale's prefix will change from "Asst" to "Head" before he leaves St. Matthews this time.

I would go out on that same limb.

Maybe, just maybe that Castle had always been a smashmouth type of team and they didn't buy into Coach Coverdale's system.

It takes total dedication from everyone from the players to the other coaches on the staff. My question is were the people at Castle willing to do what it took to excel in the wide open system or were they to busy piming for the smash mouth days of old?

Their loss is Trinity's gain.

That's my understanding. The offensive mind set and lack of skill players to implement his spread offense contributed to the lack of success at Castle.

Isnt that part of choaching???????????? getting your team to believe in what you do? AND or changing things so your team can win at a high level. coaching at a school that has everything doesnt make you a great coach. Anybody can coach at those schools. it is the coach that wins four games when they should have only one, that is a great coach.

Coach Coverdale is a phenominal person and football man. If I were a betting man, I would put a pretty hefty sum down that Coach Coverdale's prefix will change from "Asst" to "Head" before he leaves St. Matthews this time.

Congrats to Coach and the Trinity folks!!

"LEGEND"? Two titles in thirty years and losing a third of his games? 65% equals a lot of 6-4 and 7-3 seasons doesn't it? Around St. Matthews that wouldn't qualify as a "legend", that would qualify as "fired".

Yes, Legend. In the history of Indiana high school football only 14 coaches have won more than two state titles. Thats fairly select company.

I don't get it. You would fire Coach Lidy, who won over 80% of their games his last 5 seasons, yet you celebrate the return of a Coach who at the same school failed to win 50% of their games.

I would bet that if Trinity were to play in Indiana 5A that they would have a lot of 7-3 or 6-4 seasons as well. Its a little different then in Kentucky where 3 schools have won 77% of all the 4A titles, and 17 of the last 20.

I think if you consider all factors Coach Lidy did pretty well for himself while at Castle. Your judging success through green colored glasses. Trinity has been setup to win titles with as little difficulity as possible. St. X and Male having to play each other in the Semis is quite a disadvanted when compared to the Rocks.

i agree, IMO dont think T or X could have beaten Warren central or ben Davis for that matter. ( with or without coverdale) Didnt T try and play Ben Davis a few years back and got spanked two years in a row?

^ Stick to the thread..........rain on somebody elses parade.......

......... strike 3, your out.

WELCOME COACH "C" !

Thats my point. Who hasn't been successful at Trinity? Trinity has been a top 3 program in 4A before, during, and after the tenure of Coach Coverdale. In fact the school has had 5 different coaches to win a state title, so is it coaching or just being at the right school.

Maybe he is a great coach, but from an outsiders prospetive. Coach Coverdale was great while at Trinity. Away from Trinity, I think that it is fair to say that he struggled. While at the same time Trinity thrived. I guess I would have to see him be successful somewhere other than Trinity before I would be willing to agree with the Trinity faithful.

This is GREAT for Trinity!

As for those who doubt him, all I can say is that it's for the Trinity faithful to believe, and for the rest to be brought to the faith. ;)

It takes more than just a man occupying a position to bring success to a program. That's why Trinity is successful. We believe in our program, every aspect, and support our coaches, players, and everyone associated with Trinity in all aspects. Trinity is not successful because of flukes. It's hard work, and team work that gets it done.

I say with certainty that you would be wrong.....

Thank God that none of us need your support and that we are estatic that the BEST OC around is back home in Shamrock City.

Did you all know that Bill Belichek AND Pete Carrol were tremendous assistants, then mediocre head coaches, before fine tuning their craft and becoming dominant?

My point is that winning 65% of your games would get you canned at Trinity (at least I hope so). All I can say about your last point is, go back and do your homework. Trinity has spent time on the same side of the bracket as both X and Male over the years. They also have met them both in the final game a few times and did pretty well.

It is pretty clear that you want to bash Cov, and as you've seen there aren't many takers on this site.

"Trinity has been setup to win titles with as little difficulity as possible. St. X and Male having to play each other in the Semis is quite a disadvanted when compared to the Rocks"......I'll make sure that I share your comments with my son when he gets home tonight...tell him he can just show up on Friday nights and line up....no need to do all of the other things....6 days a week of weight training and conditioning - nearly year round, practices, film, more film, position meetings, etc, etc. Man is he going to be mad...all the other things he could have ACCOMPLISHED....and still had a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RING
