^ wonderful years.....and to think, I think that he will be around for quite sometime now.

My point is that winning 65% of your games would get you canned at Trinity (at least I hope so). All I can say about your last point is, go back and do your homework. Trinity has spent time on the same side of the bracket as both X and Male over the years. They also have met them both in the final game a few times and did pretty well.

It is pretty clear that you want to bash Cov, and as you've seen there aren't many takers on this site.

Were in my post did I imply that it had always been that way. I was commenting on the current situation. For that matter not all of Trinitys titles were while competing in 4A.

I know I'm taking an unpopular position on this issue, and that fine I don't care if I'm the only one who feels this way. I think I've presented enough stats to at least validate the questions that I am asking.

I think it is odd that you state that you would hope a coach would be fired for only winning 65% of the time, yet at the same time you celebrate the hiring of a coach who didn't come close to this same benchmark.

Trinity did not suffer due to his departure, while Castle did not benefit by his arrival, in fact they regressed. So I'm sorry that I offend you Trinity fans, but we are talking about a coach that has been described on this board as the best OC in the area, so isn't it a fair question to ask where was the offense during his time at Castle? I know you wouldn't be satisfied if Trinity averaged 21 pts per game.

First, congratulations to Trinity on Coach Coverdale returning. I remember the guy from his first stint with the Shamrocks, and from talking with other Trinity people in the know it is apparent that he is quite a coach, as well as a good man. Trinity faithful, is this an upgrade from Coach Adams?

Next, I did not take Strike-3’s comments as an attack on Coach Coverdale, but rather as legitimate inquiry regarding why the Trinity faithful are so excited over Coverdale’s return after a less than stellar performance as head coach in Indiana. This is certainly a legitimate question.

As to his comment that “Trinity has been setup to win titles with as little difficulty as possible. St. X and Male having to play each other in the Semis is quite a disadvanted when compared to the Rocks.”; Trinity has not met St. X in any playoff game other than a state championship game since 1986 (the state finals, as we all know, is a different story but that is not what Strike-3 is posting about) and Trinity has not played Male in a playoff game other than in a state championship game since 1996; prior to that it was 1986. On the other hand, since 1986, St. X and Male have met along the road in playoff matches prior to the state championship in 1989, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003.

I do not believe that the KHSAA “set up” the playoff to favor Trinity; unfortunately for St. X and Male the latest iteration of the division of the big three put Trinity in the East and the St. X and Male in the West. Most high school football fans realize that there was no intent to pave the way for Trinity to win state football titles, and most high school fans realize that St X and Male are in an extraordinarily tough football district.

Thank you for that. I really don't have anything against Coach Coverdale (contrary to popular opinion). I just find all the praise he is receiving odd considering the circumstances. Maybe since I live about 25 miles from Castle, it is harder for me to turn a blind eye to what happened there.

Also I was not implying that the KHSAA "set up" anything purposefully to benefit Trinty. But I think we can all agree that of the Big 3 Trinity has the best bracket. Remember the Big 3 have won 77% of the 4A titles. So at the beginning of the year from a practcal standpoint you almost have to figure that each of them have a 33% chance of winning another title, barring a rare spoiler. What I was trying to say is that St. X and Male face the possibility of having to defeat two of the Big 3 to win a title, while Trinity does not have the same obsticle. (at this current time, to avoid all confusion)

And its not sour grapes or anything like that. As far as I know the school I support has never faced Trinity and it is unlikely that we ever will as we would have to advance to the 4A title game.

For that matter not all of Trinitys titles were while competing in 4A.

Right, they were before 4A existed...come on.

I know, they were pre-1975. I am also aware that it used to be the Louisville winner against the rest of the state that would be matched up in the finals. But since people on here like to try to twist each others words, I thought that this statement might show that I have in fact "Done my Homework" but I guess when you have an unpopular opinion people are prone to attack.

Anyway I'm done with this topic, so I guess you all can celebrate that now. I entered this conversation with legitimate questions, so I asked the people who should know Coach Coverdale the best. Thanks to stick1 for being the only person who was able to look past my audacity for asking the question in the first place and attempt to provide a legitimate answer.

strike-3, I understand your questions, and how you arrived at them. I think the crux of the answer is that the circumstances of the situation Coach Coverdale faced in his head coaching position, though, lend legitimacy to those who assert that support of a program from within and the outside cannot be stated emphatically enough. In addition, if one is trying to "reinvent the wheel", so to speak, the first ride will be bumpy. Coach Coverdale is, by all accounts, an extremely inventive offensive mind. He's a perfect fit at Trinity, and regardless of his record at his previous school, we all welcome him back with excitement.

As for Coach Adams, I think we all offer him our gratitude for his role in our success while he held the reins. I'm sure he'll have great success in his next position. It's not like he's chopped liver. :thumb:

Both men are changing their positions at least in part for the women in their lives. Coach Adams has a long time girlfriend in 'Bama and it was time for him to return home to his roots. Coach Coverdale is quoted in the Evansville paper that his wife wants the opportunity to complete some advanced coursework in English at the University of Louisville. This will open many more doors for her career. It's a win-win situation for both men. I have heard positive remarks from many, many students past and prsent and parents & co-workers regarding both coaches. Get the CD burner up and running as Coach Coverdale brings his version of the spread offense back to the Commonwealth.

A coach doesn't create better skill athletes. He may help make them better but the basic quickness, agility, etc must exist in the athletes.

Coach Kevin Wright threw the ball at Trinity and ran the ball exclusively at Warren Central in Indianapolis. I don't believe Coach Coverdale's stable was quite as full at Castle. Let's see how the next man does at Castle.

This is not true! A coach can do a lot for speed, quickness and agility. Schools must develop athletes!

As for Coach Coverdale. He is a very good coach, but I will say that his system is pretty difficult. He has been blessed @ Trinity with very good athletes.

The system is VERY difficult. The first time I looked at my sons' CD of the offense my head hurt and my eyes crossed. In addition to having some very good athletes at Trinity we have also been blessed with some very smart athletes. Coach Coverdale is a welcome return. Welcome back coach.

That could be the secret to the whole question. I don't know what kind of students Castle has but Trinity traditionally has some pretty smart kids. That makes a difference in how much of an offense you can install and be good at. I've been at a couple of schools with very intelligent kids and places where there are a lot more special ed students. It makes a difference in how diverse your playbook can be and how good you are at what you run.

In Castles case it would be the lack of talent to run Coverdale's offense. Castle is one of the better public schools in Southern Indiana.

^ I really think it is the fact of whether or not the ENTIRE community bought into the system for Cov...that happened at Trinity.
