What's the latest on this job? Heard there are 3 being interviewed first of the week but I've heard no names. Anyone?

You don't HAVE to teach to coach anymore....That was done away with a few years ago. Now if he applied as a teacher and was not certified I can see the problem. Plus no public school employee that I know of starts getting paid for the next year's contract until August of the year the contract takes effect.

No but if a certified teacher is applying and qualified according to the job announcement, they likely made a mistake back then. The non-teacher is to be hired when no qualified teacher exists according to the job announcement.

You are correct if we're talking about a "teaching" job.....I thought the discussion was about a "coaching" job.

A few years ago the KHSAA began allowing non-teachers to coach the Big 2 sports (football and basketball) as para-profesionals. Before then the head coaches of those sports HAD to be a teacher. My only point is that the coach in question does not have to be a teacher to be the Head Coach, but if he lied about having certification that changes everything.;)

If there is a certified teacher that applies for a head coaching job you have to give it to them. The ruling that passed said that if no certified teachers applied then you could hire a para-professional to be the head coach, before this ruling you could not. This was done because some places could not get a teacher to coach.

Willy, you seem to have some inside connections. Why don't you find out who those three candidates are?

I am trying but they are keeping it hush-hush??:sssh:

I was hoping someone that is close to the school/situation would have some info.

Sounds like Wayne Stevens is the Head Coach at West now. If this is true, Congrats Wayne "the Train" Stevens!

I never heard the names of the ones being interviewed but did hear one backed out today. Congrats Coach Stevens. Best of luck this season as well as the years to come.

Man that was quick if this is true!

Who is Wayne Stevens? That name sounds fimilar. Where has he been?

Wayne played HS ball @ Betsy Layne...college ball @ Sue Bennett College & Morehead State. While @ Morehead I think he also did some coaching for the universtity(student assistant). As far as HS coaching he has been @ Montgomery County,Lexington Catholic & of coures West Jessamine.Quality guy-quality coach-IMO.

Couldn't agree more. Wayne should have been the man from the get-go. Great person who knows his football and more importantly is in the profession so that he may help young people.

These young men will benefit greatly from having Coach Stevens as there man.

Good luck Coach!!!

I think a lot of people were suprised when he didn't get it in the first place. Congrats!

Jessamine County seems to just do things backwards. Both head football coaches have left in the last two years. What a place!

Wayne should have got the job the first time.
