Good luck to Mercer County in 2006. As an old player and coach, it is great to see the good things happening with the merger and new facility which is incredible. Hope to see the HogDogs or whatever they become on the carpet in December.

I was talking to one of Marty's former assistant coaches last night and I told him that Marty knows what to do with running backs.

 

I am predicting the "bone" and the "broken bone" and (at least) three 1,000 yard rushers for Mercer County in '06.

I have heard...staying with the Scottish theme...The Highlanders (as in William Wallace, etc). I think thats pretty unique and cool. I hope they continue to consider it.

Mercer was already prolly the favorite in the district and now with the merger they will be even more favored. Doesnt sound good for my wildcats in prolly a rebuilding year.

Do you guys think this makes Mercer the preseason #1 2A team?

Adding talent and great tradition from Harrodsburg can only help but even with that wasn't last year the first time Mercer has even won one playoff game in at least 10 years?

 

Sometimes you can catch lightning in a bottle but from what I've seen most teams built up to their championships through succeeding years of further advancement in the playoffs

True, but this is essentially like Mercer gaining something like 10-15 transfers with significant varsity experience. From what I had read, Harrodsburg had a fairly young team last fall and had a lot of key players back. If the infusion of talent fills in some gaps, Mercer could be tough to beat ... I'm guessing that they will.

If i were picking pre-season 2A right now. I would probably go with this:

 

1. Russel

2. Mercer

3. Belfry

4. Owensboro Cath.

5. Ft. Campbell

6. Corbin

7. Larue

8. Trigg

9. Desales

10. Western

 

Not very scientific. Some of these i don't have a clue what they have back. But tradition mandates that i put in a couple of them. I'm sure Breathitt and P-Burg should be in here somewhere. I think Middlesboro is 2A aren't they? Does anyone know what they have. Sorry. Didn't mean to get to far off the subject. Maybe another thread on pre-season 2A should be opened. Either way I think Mercer has some obstacles to overcome where the other two i put in the top three have that tradition established. But Mercer will have great coaching, tremendous facilities, super administration and lots of talent. Their outcome may depend on who's turn it is to travel in the region and semi-finals.

I agree with Mike Check's top 10 of 2A.... I do believe the consolidation has cause Mercer to be bumped up a few spots... but whoever comes out of region 3 will have a tuff time going down into the mountains and beating whatever team wins that region

They did have Russell on the ropes last year.... i was there and lived it. That was the best game I had ever been apart of.... does anybody know where Newport's wide reciever signed he was number 32? he made that big catch late in the game leading Newport fans to think the game was over but you never count out the DEVILS!
