He's not really from Tennessee.

What you're talking about used to matter more decades ago (think of the pairing of JFK and LBJ in '60). Don't think regional identity matters so much today. In any event, only a tiny percentage of voters is influenced by who the VP candidate is. As Exhibit A, I offer up the list of VP losers from recent years: Palin, Quayle, Edwards.
