Here's hoping for something closer to 12th this year for the Villans. If they can just be relatively safe by mid-April, that's a successful season.

I think they've spent the money from the Delph and Benteke sales pretty well, but we'll have to see.

Not a terrible run to start things off with only three games against Euro-place contenders in the first three months. Last year, Aston Villa had played Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City before the Septemeber international break.

Three points... however they come.

Bournemouth 0:1 Aston Villa

In a year that they can expect a relegation battle, a road victory is a decent start.

Anybody catch the ManU/Spurs match to start the season off? It was probably the most intriguing matchup of this opening weekend.

Is it my imagination, or was that field/pitch about 2/3 size? Looked like a crackerbox, but could have been camera placement.

It was hard to see. I couldn't make out the penalty boxes at times. I think because the camera was facing into the sun, or maybe it is just positioned low there, made everything hard to see.

Rough start for Arsenal. They didn't seem with it.

Awful lot of folks talking about this being the year they'd finally built a title contender again... oops. They need a deadeye, top class striker, and they need him badly

The rumor for two weeks has been Karim Benzema... but it hasn't appeared to have happened yet.

Wild day at Stamford Bridge yesterday. Courtois gets the red in the Chelsea/Swansea match that causes them to play with 10 for almost the entire second half. Swansea connects on the penalty and it stays 2-2.

A match everyone thought Chelsea could score three points could have easily been zero.

Ayew looked great for Swansea in BPL debut.

They'll still qualify for a Champions League place no matter what, but you can't drop all three points at home if you're shooting for the title.

Still, so many good players. I'm an especially big fan of Ozil. They'll still be really fantastic.

Yeah, I agree. Still, expectations for the new season were high especially after Arsenal won all those preseason trophies and cups.
