Ram
Have more success against Mayfield than Beechwood?
Jumper_Dad
My first thought is yes they can. Will they is a different animal as NCC can only meet them in the finals and Beechwood had a pretty clear path to playing them each year. NCC may not get as many chances over the length of this alignment as Beechwood has in the past.
Toothpick
Just those 2 getting to play will require a lot, especially for MF in a very deep west History between them is a grand total of 3 games, all 3 were for state titles with MF claiming 2 and NCC
KentuckyJoe
I dont think NewCath will have enough weapons on offense this season to beat Mayfield. Smith is a great talent but then there is a big drop off.

uk#1fan
I dont think NewCath will have enough weapons on offense this season to beat Mayfield. Smith is a great talent but then there is a big drop off. I expect big things from their 6'5 210 pound QB. All of their WR's are in the 6'0 to 6'2 180 to 190 pound range. I look for them to help loosen up the defense so Smith can run wild.

gchs_uk9
I tend to think "yes," but I'm going to couch that. My biggest reason for answering yes is that Newport Central Catholic will never have to go to Mayfield and win. Beechwood couldn't do it and I'd guess that in most years Newport Catholic couldn't either. But getting them in the state final is a little different atmosphere and could lend itself to a potential upset, although I'd still expect Mayfield to win more games against Newport Catholic than they would lose. Good points here. The other side of the coin is NewCath isn't inheriting some complex with Mayfield. I honestly think part of the Mayfield dominance was because they were inside the BW heads. After the past two title games it may actually help NewCath direct theirfcous better if it were Mayfield on the other side as opposed to DeSales for some of the same reasons.
