I hope it was a white guy

Sorry

Its a black guy.

So the suspect that was in custody this morning was not the shooter It was actually the driver of the vehicle who turned himself in and has sense been released.

An arrest warrant has been issued for murder charges and the US Marshalls are offering a $10,000 reward.

Another example of a guy being in the system but not locked up like he should have been. Suspect was on supervised probation for a 121 month sentence after a bank robbery. This guy never should not have been on the streets.

Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong had a message for the community.

“As a community we say so often as a theme — black lives matter. And at the end of the day, we have to ask ourselves, do all lives matter? Regardless of race, creed, color, economic status, what profession that person holds,” Armstrong said. “All lives matter. And this is just a reminder of how dangerous this job is.”

Horrible, senseless. Memphis has major issues.

You are right. I grew up just outside of Memphis. Much of my family is still there or in the area. Most of them have vacated the city for Southhaven, MS or Bartlett or Collierville. The issues are not new. Memphis is a perfect example of what doesn't work, and that is our present system of hand outs rather than hand ups. Hand ups would provide incentives to those who are willing to put an effort into becoming a useful part of society, valuing education and personal investment rather than avoiding these values and condemning themselves to be held down by the system. Then, when one wants better things, the only way to get them is by illegal activities, sports or music, which are all a big gamble.

Prayers for the policeman's family, but also prayers to all the others who die by violence in this city..too many taken before their time.

Our country as a whole has serious issues. I really can't imagine what it may be like 100 years from now.

Your post reminded me of one I just saw on Facebook earlier. It was disgusting. Going to see if I can find it real quick and then we may need to start a new thread on it.

I can't upload the photo from my phone. Heres a link to the article. If the link doesn't work for anyone then Google US UNcut Richmond California and it should be the first thing that pops up. I'm referring to giving people money that are "at risk" of committing crime .

Ok sorry link won't even post either. Just Google US UNcut Richmond California.

Pretty interesting, but I really wish they would do a study and see what had more effect...the money or the mentoring.

I can't say I don't feel the same way.

Then I recall that just under 50 years ago our cities were on fire in Watts, Harlem, Detroit, Chicago. We were in a war that would claim nearly 60,000 American lives. We were having to force the integration rulings of the courts through military might in some regions. The Counter-Culture was about to turn the "traditional norms" of the 50's on their heads. Political leaders such as JFK and RFK, and Social Leaders such as Medgar Evers, Malcom X and MLK were being assassinated within a five years span. Some people's answers to all that change.

After reflecting I realize, as much as things change; they stay the same. It really wasn't any better at my birth than now. Just seems worse cause I'm older.

If it works, it's cheap money spent. I can see where the mentoring is the real driver and the money gets the person interested or committed to accepting the mentoring. I would suspect that there are a lot of people stuck in the current system who would love a chance to get out and just don't know how or the hill is too high to climb alone.

Suspect has been caught.

100 years from now! Do you think the human will even be around? Not sure!
