Just can't believe Somerset will lose 11 games again.

Hopkins Central and Logan County play each other so one streak will end. Ohio County, reasonably close to both Hopkins Central and Logan isn't playing either. I'd have been on the phone with those teams first thing.

 

 

Let's hope there isn't any inclement weather on September 25 causing the game to be called in a tie like the ones you referenced in this thread. Heaven forbid but if it does, everyone can thank you for jinxing it

It does seem surreal that Somerset was winless last season, but the funny thing was that they were favored in their first round playoff game. It's crazy to think a team can go without winning a game in the regular season and still be favored over the district champion in the opposite district.

 

I looked at their schedule and can't see them going without a win this season. I do think that there could be a strong possibility for them to be 1-9 heading into the playoffs with their lone win against Caverna, but coming into the season with 11 consecutive losses and the schedule they have, things don't look the greatest for even a .500 season. With that having said, I do with this the best of luck and maybe Brother Ezekial, Brother Jedediah, Brother Albert, Brother Hezekiah, and myself can get the big wagon from one of the elders to come catch a game at the Briar Patch for a game this season

Not necessarily. For districts that don't get all their teams in the playoffs, that team could have won the last game of regular season

Looking at East Ridge's schedule, I can see them starting the season with a 5-0 record. That is of course without knowing anything about Twin Valley (VA) and doing score comparisons with the other opponents in the first five games as compared the their results last season. I think at best they could be about a 6-4 team at the end of the season though.

They played an independent schedule last season which meant they were ineligible for the postseason. This year they've dropped down to 2A which should help, although the district includes five other teams - Shelby Valley, Prestonsburg, Leslie County, Allen Central, and Betsy Layne.

East Ridge has been a revolving door for coaches over the last decade too. Brad Allen was their head coach from 2008-2013 and provided the most stability since the programs inception. ER went 6-4 in 2013 after dropping out of a very tough 3A district wtih Belfry, Pike Central and Lawrence County, and Allen resigned after that year.

 

Coach Allen then spent 2014 as an assistant coach at Belfry, where he was part of the Pirates 3A championship.

 

Then during the off season, he again accepted the head coaching job back at East Ridge, where he will lead the Warriors in 2015.

East Ridge finished off the season winning against Grundy, Jackson County, and South Floyd. 5-0 is a hopeful start to 2015, but you never know how anything will go until you get the pads on. East Ridge was hit hard by graduation losing the most talented group since the 2006 season. Bringing back Brad Allen and keeping coaches like Keith May and Quentin Morgan on staff will only help the Warriors continue to build their program.

 

Out of the first five games, you travel to Knott County Central, to the Pike County Bowl to play Phelps, and then following an open week we host Grundy, Twin Valley, and Allen Central.

 

Knott County is sort of a toss up, you never know what (or who) you will get with a John Paul Chapman led team. Phelps should be easily outgunned by the Warriors. Twin Valley and Grundy will be tough opponents this season. Last year Grundy was a very young team, not the usual Virginia powerhouse they're used to being, while Twin Vally was having one of the best teams in its history. Allen Central is a critical district opener, but I look for East Ridge to win with ease.

 

You should hopefully see the Warriors with an 8 game winning streak going into Prestonsburg for a very tough battle against the Blackcats. Following East Ridge will honor the 1973 1A State Runner-Up Elkhorn City Cougars football team as they will host Shelby Valley (led by former East Ridge head coach and Elkhorn City Alum, Eric Ratliff). Following murders row, East Ridge will travel to a must win against Betsy Layne, where East Ridge should be slightly favored. Finish the season at a pretty good Leslie County team and hosting South Floyd to finish out the season. We're hoping for a good year up on the Ridge!

If Trinity keeps their streak alive through the first two games they might have an undefeated season.

 

I'd like to see DeSales continue theirs, but they have scheduled some pretty stiff competition. Not even to mention what awaits them in the playoffs.

I'll echo those sentiments.

 

From all accounts Coach Allen is a top class guy and I would love to see him witness success as the HC. Even if it is something comparable to what Shelby Valley is in the midst of...to be able to revive some football tradition for an area desperately needing something positive right about now would be a great thing.

 

Is Keith May involved with the ER Feeder System?

 

Guy really helped Belfry for a number of years with his teams. He was the Head Coach that helped develop Doug Howard among many other well known Pirates.
