I agree, even with Damron leaving he still has my respect because he was a good man and coach. Can't change how you feel about a person because they have a desire and need to move forward with their career and life.

I disagree that it hasn't worked, we put alot of points on the board with that offense. But we did not have a very good defense and all we could hope to do was to outscore the opponent.

 

What about if you take away all the points from the Bracken County game? But what I'm saying is, Boyd doesn't have the defense to depend on runing that spread offense. Heck two or three plays into a game and the other teams all knew what to expect and took advantage of it. The plays were all too easy to read.

Against Lawrence last year even the fans knew what the coaching staff for Lawrence was going to run because it was the same plays that had been working the entire night. The only reason LC won that game was because they made enough defensive stops.

My money is on TJ Maynard.

Why? He might lose the respect of the ignorant part of the community. I think everyone would understand that is is a career move and it wouldn't be an attack on Ashland. If anyone loses respect for him over that, he probaly doesn't want their respect anyways. That's just immature.

What's wrong with the spread? There have been a lot of spread teams to win the state championship over the last 10 years or so. Boyd Co averaged around 34 points a game this year. Most teams would be happy with that average.

You can still get in the 3 back set and grind it out but ask Tates Creek how that's working since the game has evolved. Unless you are somebody like Danville with superior athletes, it's pretty tough to line up in 3 backs and be really successful for a whole game. Don't get me wrong there is a time and place for that kind of offense but when you look at that Region you can pretty much chalk up a loss everytime you face Rockcastle running that kind of attack as it plays into their hands!

 

You don't have to have superior athletes to have a run-oriented offense. Though you do need superior athletes to run the spread successfully. Ask Russell, Belfry, Mayfield, ect about the wing T ot the Power I. I know that most of the teams Russell faced last year in the playoffs had better athletes than Russell did and everyone except of Belfry ran a spread type offense. You HAVE to have a great defense to win with the spread. People always talk about the offense, let me remind you that offenses win games and defenses wins championships.

I don't think you have much of a point. Are you going to try to sell me that Belfry, Russell and Mayfield don't have superior talent in their classes. If that's what you think then that's your opinion but you haven't seen much 1A+2A football if you think those 3 don't have superior talent for their respective classes.

Not to slight anyone else on the team, but I would have to disagree with your statement, when it is applied to Kasey Clark. You aren't going to see many high school aged young men that are even close to him in terms of athleticism.

Your so right and I just don't see Boyd having a strong enough defense to keep running the spread as it's main play.

I've always questioned whether the time & focus factor involved with running a spread or more wide open offense tended to detract from the defensive side of the ball for those teams - especially for HS with much more 2way players.

1. it seems to take quite a bit of time to master it well

2. the defense tends not to get the physical nature that power teams often have
