Who should be the New Boyd County Coach?

Featured Replies

McPeek would probably have been the leading canidate but since he's coaching that arena football team, I doubt he'll even be considered...i'd love to see him get it, though.

My guess is Lee Evans will get the nod, mostly because he's familiar with how Damron ran things, and Evans is also a very solid defensive mentor.

Boyd Co used to have a very good youth program. I hate to hear that it has dropped off. Unfortunatly that's not the only place that it's happening!

Yeah his DB's at Ashland were usually toasted "extra dark" when he was there:D

When my son played, we always had a team in Boyd win the League every year in at least one age group. My Son's team barely ever lost to anyone, including Ashland, Westwood, Raceland, Russell, East Carter, West Carter and Greenup.

Who should be the next coach? The best applicant that the SBDM council thinks can do the job. That is the way things are suppose to be done. If they let you guys pick him the politics would be even worse.

Is good to see some responses on here! And I definately agree politics is bad at BC and they do need a group to do the deciding not just one person. Only thing worries me about Evans or McPeek for that matter is when Dane gets his team going will he take them with him to that level? I just think when they do hire they need to interview and make sure they have someone willing to stay and rebuild the program, starting with the JFL.

I really think Vince is why it's dropping off so bad. People just dont want to invest as much money as it takes in sports just to get to middle school and be up the creek without that proverbial paddle.

Notice still noone seems to know Vince's win record or wants to post it. That too should say something. And as far as BC people I think most are afraid they'll be found out when the post something and dont want the fallback on the their kid.

Only hire Lee Evans is you want a man of high moral fiber and great character. I think the search should begin and end with coach Evans.

I don't know Lee Evans that well as a person, but if this is true then I wish him luck with it if he's not planning on moving on sometime soon. Whoever they get I hope it's someone that looks at the talent kids have and not the billfold on the parents.

What i don't understand is why none of the powers that be see the changes going on at the jfl and middle school level. It would just be nice to see BC's football program build a good rep. starting at the lower levels and building. Whoever does get head coach hopefully will take into consideration what's going on down there.

Unfortunatly this is happening other places than Boyd Co. The problem is a lot of people talk about how bad things are but nobody wants to dedicate their time on Sat's etc to build a solid youth program. I'm not kidding when I say that if you are really passionate about it then you should get involved on the youth board. This is happening at my old school too. A lot of people are starting to complain about the youth program but when it's time for people to step up and take charge all you can here are the crickets!

Oh trust me every Saturday I'm somewhere give'n time and support to alot of different sports. Your right though, I see it too, everyone wants to complain but they don't want to step up to make corrections.

I've seen a couple coaches who takes an interest in the JFL leagues, and one is T.J. Maynard. T.J. is a coach who believes his program starts at the JFL level and he makes sure he is involved, and he shows up every Saturday to be visible to the young kids. Believe me, those kids notice him and they play for him. I know coaches are strapped for time during the season but T.J. NEVER missed a Saturday. It's a very good thing for a HC to bee as visible as possible to his future players. I've heard that that Coach Hart has started to take an interest this year in Ashland's JFL system. If so, then good for him and better yet, great for the Ashland program.

McPeek's arena team would be done by the start of practice, plus he's a coach at Lawrence at the moment. So, if he wanted it, he could take it. Lee Evans. T.J. Maynard, or Gary McPeek would be my choices. You could'nt go wrong with either of them but Evans deserves a shot, if not at Boyd then somewhere. He's a tremendous coach who knows the game well. He coached under Marsh for a long time and would probaly bring the same style of play.

With the lack of success that Bill Goldsmith has had at Lawrence and the pressure being on this year i could see him going after this position imo. He is very close to McPeek and Damron. I hope Billy goes after it. Good luck Lions!:D

I was wandering if Mike Davis would be interested in going back home and coaching. He has things hopping in Grant County and I know he is always involved with his youth league. He is young and works hard to get the job done. I agree all of the coaches mentioned would do a great job. I just think football at BC needs to improve, it was not long ago they were a true powerhouse. Whatever happens I wish BC and Coach Damron the best.

I can't ever remember Boyd Co being a powerhouse but I am a fan of Mike Davis. Great guy that loves his kids that play for him!
