Playing CCH on a regular basis would be nothing but positive for the SK football program. Even if SK got smeared every game by CCH, it would be still be a positive. CCH is and has been respected for a long time, just because of their brutal schedules. They have been playing the big boys in Ohio for decades. SK will gain more respect for losing to the big boys, than to win against the smaller schools.

Are you saying that CovCath is amongst the 'big boys'? We can argue about that for days.

Far as respect it has been 3 seasons since SK lost at home and SK some how will have six home games this year.

Sk has not lost at home since Sept 28th in 2012 against Campbell County in the final seconds 29 to 28.

Yep, and that has been a rivalry longer than SK's first winning season. They play every year AND Beechwood has enough State titles to fill SK's trophy case several times over.

Afraid to play the 3rd best 4A team and now 10th best 5A team? SK beat Collins twice who is a lot better than CovCath. I think it has more to do with scheduling issues if anything.

SK has joined the 6A club of who has the best random crop of talent, to have a great year and get blasted by a catholic school in December.

A top 6a team got crushed in two games 60-10. If that's means your a top 6a.....

This thread is better than anything on TV. Though I do want to comment on something.

 

Wrestling and basketball? SK has just as many trophies in wrestling than Highlands has in football!

 

Given that there are 12 individual wrestling trophies given out per year, that's comparing apples to oranges. And SK only has one championship for Team Wrestling so I know you weren't referring to that.

Wow 15 pages of parent's bickering over who is the best. Really? I would be ashamed. These are children playing ball. These games mean more to you all than they do our boy's from the sound of it. I think these boy's from all teams act more mature than you parent's on here acting like this. Shameful

Let me try to paint the picture of Simon Kenton respect.

 

The fact is that Simon Kenton was a bad football program for its entire existence until 2008. That includes the first half of Marksberry's tenure. The program started to become average as population grew and as the program started building, including youth football. So the lack of respect has been earned. People don't forget 25 years of bad to mediocre football overnight.

 

Since 2008, SK has been a good program. They have taken the next step forward. They have still struggled in the playoffs and in big games. However, due to playing weak schedules it has been hard for people to respect SK as a top level team. Scheduling is a big factor in perception of how good a team is. Combine weak schedules and playoff losses and 25 years of mediocrity and people are still not going to consider a program a top level team.

 

People outside Northern Kentucky are not familiar with the mediocrity of SK football for its history. That causes them to be more willing to give respect.

 

Add in the uk#1fan factor on here and now you have developed an anti-SK faction who use SK's mediocre history against them and it is tough for respect to be given by many.

 

The fact is - Marksberry has done a good job building the program to now being a very good program ready to step up to the next level. They have set up a schedule to challenge the team. SK is right there with the opportunity to be more than a good program that can't win the big games. They have the big games in front of them and the chance to prove that the program is among the best over the next couple years. This is where they can overcome the mediocre history and force even the naysayers to agree the Pioneers are one of the best teams in the state. You get the level of respect you earn.

Ryle has a 6-5 record vs SK and has been to the state finals

Dixie has a 4-2 record and has been to the state finals.

Ryle and Dixie has done the same thing as SK with a winning record over SK in the same class.
