I think a lot of times this is the case. I know a couple of families that had 3-4 kids. By far, the best players were the youngest ones, simply because they had siblings that didn't take it easy on them.

I would agree with this. Also when my kids were young, if they did not make a extra effort on the dribble, I would not allow them to get the shot off.

My youngest would often go out with the mini ball and lower the rim. It used to bother me, but I realized he was still dribbling, shooting with proper form and exercising.

I had several neighbors come up to me and said if ever a kid deserved to make it, it was him. He spent many hours in the driveway.

Two of the three 2000 career point scorers at my high school both had a full court with two baskets in their back yards. Coincidence?

I remember when son Joe played grade school AAU (Rockets) with young TACkster, your boy was tall (& thin), and liked to shoot the 3 (pretty darn well too).

If you can learn to dribble on a gravel driveway, then you'll be fine in a gym

 

I think that comes from the same coaching manual as "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball."

Saw a goal at the top of a street recently where it was level....... but if you missed you might be chasing the ball about 1/2 mile down the hill. Got to think kids shooting at that goal aren't chucking up long 3s.

Having one in my driveway was a big reason I could shoot "lights out", however, as Ron Dawn told me my freshman year at the final cut.....you sure can shoot the ball, but couldn't play a lick off defense.

I thought it was mandatory in this state to have a basketball goal somewhere on your property. If I were to buy a home that didn't have a basketball goal already in place, I would ask that one be installed. I'm sure the realitor would make it happen.

Ervin Stepp told me that his father cut an inch or two out of their rim and welded it back together smaller. He said after shooting on that rim all summer that the school rims felt like shooting it into a giant trashcan. I've always wanted to try that.
