She would have to be well established with the team for a long time just like she is with the Spurs. I don't see an outside team hiring her.

Yes, I would in the right situation.

Yeah, I think she needs a little more time too.

They were discussing it on Mike & Mike this morning.

It would have to be right situation big time. NBA players already disrespect a lot of coaches.

Not today. Better assistants and college coaches out there.

One day maybe.

I didnt know who she was until I googled her so Id say no.

In fairness, how many NBA assistants can you rattle off without looking them up? Not you, as in YOU, but you meaning plural (most of sports' fandom). I don't think her anonymity is an issue or a problem, I think it is the nature of being an NBA assistant.

I think the best option for anyone hiring her would be to promote from within. That way the players and organization are used to her. Some day players may be ready to play for her but right now that is her best option.

I would have zero problems hiring her when she is ready, I don't think she is ready yet.

There are a lot with misogynist attitudes out there (and here on BGP) when it comes to women's sports and women in sports...that would be the biggest obstacle.

I wouldn't be surprised to see her take over for Pop one day.

Coaching is different from playing . I don't think it's misogynist to say men in general are just better at most sports. It's science.

I do think a woman coaching in a men's game would take extra work than a man who grew up playing the game. It's not impossible , but the games are different speeds . Also different strengths and weaknesses.

I think Hammond is off to a good start.

I have mixed emotions on her since she played for the Russian Olympic team in the early 2000's. It rubs me the wrong way that an American would play for the Russians against the Americans in the Olympics (not sure if the two teams actually played against each other on the court but they could have). I know she had duel citizenship though. If Pop thinks she can coach, that is certainly a pretty big endorsement.

I can see how that is an issue. But, was it the case (not saying it was because I don't know) that she wouldn't have made team USA or didn't get an invite and saw an opportunity to play for Russia? In that case it would be harder to hold that against her.

They did play one another. I think the decision was purely financial. WNBA players don't make a lot of money and there can be some decent payouts if you medal. Basketball players' top priority is not the Olympics, it is improving their craft for their pro careers. The WNBA season goes on a 5 week hiatus during the break so it allowed her to stay sharp (not saying it was right or admirable). Not to mention, Hammon and other women play professionally overseas, many in Russia, and live there months of the year. Not as if she was a proud patriot and once passed over conspired with Ivan Drago to get back at America. She has a legit claim as a dual citizen I presume.
