StudRB
Beechwood, Raceland, Hazard, Pikeville, Some Class A team in Mayfield's neck of the woods? Yes, I would say Russellville and Crittenden County are mighty pleased Mayfield is moving to 2A and will battle it out for some Region titles in the coming years. theguru
I will go with Beechwood. The Tigers have had some really solid teams that just couldn't get over the Mayfield hurdle. On the minus side, if Beechwood doesn't win it all at least two out of the next four years then the answer is in the mirror. Anyone? Agree or Disagree on Beechwood? Other team? theguru
Beechwood has to be the heavy favorite to win state in 1A this year I agree and would go on to say if they don't win it in convincing fashion then... :idunno:
ATLCat
Beechwood definitely. To be honest though I don't really see a "Big Loser" in this alignment. Hazard and Pikeville both have a tougher go winning their District..but their overall playoff path remains essentially the same.

frankdracman23
Are you saying that you think the Tigers are dynasty bound? For the next 4 years they should be. After that they almost certainly would be bumped into 2A which would be another matter.

Voice of Reason
Why not everyone in 1A? With Mayfield gone, that opens up a better opportunity for everyone to win a title. I also will nominate Bishop Brossart. They move down from 2A and now have a better chance to compete and build a football program.

Mf being gone helps Bw more than the other usual contenders that are on the other side of the bracket. While it may help all it helps BW and maybe Frank and Russ the most as those 3 should be the major players on the west side yearly or atleast eliminates a major obstacle to getting to the title game. Besides the obvious, what 1A schools have beat BW in the last 10 years? Frank did it once and I can't recall anyone else in 1A having done it. BW should be the favorite but it s been a long, long time since they have done it and things change but if that is the only loss it bolds well for BW to retain their spot as king of the class

With that said.. there have been some teams that I think would have beat Beechwood had they played them in that respective season. Hazard's 2011 State Title team, last year's Williamsburg team, LCA's Championship team in 2009, Danville of 2006. The other thing to look at is there was a time when Beechwood was the best 1A team over the past decade, but they didn't necessarily rule with an iron fist. They went back to back in 07 and 08 but both games were decided by 7 points or less. To me, I think Beechwood is positioned to be the clearcut favorite in 1A and a dynasty is certainly within reach. I think Beechwood wins a minimum of two State Titles the next 4 years. With that said, the past decade also shows that it also wouldn't be a complete shock if Beechwood just becomes the best of the lot but never dominant like a Mayfield was.
