In response to the two posts above, Beechwood has lost one game to a current 1A team in the 6 class era - Frankfort.

 

As to my guess about how Beechwood would have done versus ATL's list above:

 

Danville 2006 - That was before the 6 class era. Danville lost to New Cath in the title game, a team Beechwood beat in the regular season but lost to in the playoffs. Danville might have beaten Beechwood but I certainly don't think you can say they would have beaten Beechwood. Tossup.

 

LCA 2009 - Beechwood would not have beaten LCA that year. The 2009 team was one of Beechwood's least talented of the 6 class era and that LCA team was dominating.

 

Hazard 2011 - If we assume Beechwood would have played without QB Taylor Davis, who suffered a season ending injury in the first half versus Mayfield, then I think Hazard is the favorite. Beechwood did not have a good option at QB behind Davis. If we assume Davis plays, I take Beechwood no doubt. That 2011 team is one of Beechwood's best of all time, even though they did not win a title.

 

Williamsburg 2014 - Tough one, but I go with Beechwood. Calpreps.com projects Beechwood as the winner and I agree with them.

 

Finally, I agree that Beechwood is the 1A favorite and I also agree that they are a slight favorite. They are not a clear cut or overwhelming favorite - not this year and not for the next 2-3 years. If Beechwood wins a title, I expect it to be like their last two in 2007 and 2008 - a close, hard fought game that goes down to the wire.

I don't think last years Beechwood team would have beaten Williamsburg. Too much athleticism for the Tigers and I believe The Jackets would have scored at will against the Tiger D. B.wood may have had a slight advantage on the OL, but, I'd take the Jackets everywhere else.

Maybe, maybe not, William was good, very good but so was BW. Mayfield jump on Bw quick and before Bw knew it they were in big trouble and singing the same ole song of here we go, Again! Had Mf not delivered fatal blows early I think Bw might have won that game.

The state title game featured a replay of the year before when Mf literally beat William to death. I'm positive I saw dead bees all over that field after that one. Despite Mf saying all the right things, I never felt that MF really felt William had a chance. William on the other hand came out and took it straight to MF but by the half Mf had caught up and took a small lead and everyone thought that William was done and would roll over for the Cardinals. The second half found William more determined than ever, making ESPN highlights with some of their circus catches (true story). Maybe William was just that good but I think MF had a hard time getting their head in that game and they never had any since of urgency.

 

I'm sure I will take a beating by the BW fans, some of who will proclaim that BW teams don't let any other teams get in their head and I'm sure the EKY faithful will blast me for suggesting that Mf was looking past William for the trophy and they were all that they showed minus some of the circus catches of course. Does my theory have any truth in the outcome of those 2 games? I have no idea but it is certainly possible. I still think Bw was the 2nd best team last year and was relieved we got past them. Of course by the end of the title game, well atleast up until they missed their extra point in OT I had become equally worried and may have even been sending messages upstairs for Devine Intervention

Williamsburg was dang good in 2014. There defense was stout and offense was dynamic. They won almost every aspect of the game except on the score board. But you got to credit a young mayfield team and there staff because they weren't raddled. After Williamsburg intercepted Mayfield late in the quarter I knew too myself that they really needed the touchdown instead of trying for a field goal. I think they just got to conservative on that series thinking they would score.
