July 12, 201511 yr Mexican drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman escapes - CNN.com Said to be the most powerful man in Mexico, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman escaped from a Maximum Security prison about 50 miles outside of Mexico City, last night. Authorities checked the cameras in his cell and didn't see him and rushed to his cell. What they found was a hole in the wall near his shower (evidently not on camera) and below that a mile long tunnel. The tunnel had lights strung, fresh air being pumped in and even a cart with a motorcycle engine on it. His gang which are purported to be the best at tunneling into the USA put their expertise to work to break out their leader. He escaped from a Mexican prison once before in a laundry bin and was on the run for 13 years before info from the USDEA and Marshall's Service tipped Mexican Officials off to this location. While on the run those 13 years he built his cartel into the most powerful in Mexico, a cartel that is reportedly responsible for from 30-80% of all Heroin coming into the country.
July 12, 201511 yr I wouldn't think there's anyway he could do this without inside help, and plenty of it.
July 12, 201511 yr Author I wouldn't think there's anyway he could do this without inside help, and plenty of it. CNN said 18 guards were taken to Mexico City for questioning.
July 12, 201511 yr A tunnel that elaborate doesn't just pop up without some inside help. I'd say some guards walked into a lot of money and/or drugs.
July 12, 201511 yr A tunnel that elaborate doesn't just pop up without some inside help. I'd say some guards walked into a lot of money and/or drugs. Money talks, so does the thought of your entire family being slaughtered.
July 12, 201511 yr CNN said 18 guards were taken to Mexico City for questioning. Death Penalty! I believe the some people very high in their government involved as well, including their president.
July 13, 201511 yr I am generally always against the death penalty. My exception is when someone is so powerful and dangerous that having them alive is just too much of a risk. This could be an instances of that.
July 13, 201511 yr I am generally always against the death penalty. My exception is when someone is so powerful and dangerous that having them alive is just too much of a risk. This could be an instances of that. I'm against it as well. And when I said death penalty I was meaning those involved in allowing him to escape.
July 13, 201511 yr I'm against it as well. And when I said death penalty I was meaning those involved in allowing him to escape. To be fair who knows the position the guards were put in. If a drug cartel threatens your life or your wife's or children it does get tricky. Mexico is a little different from here as well.
July 13, 201511 yr Wouldn't be surprised to find out the US had some involvement in this. Why would the US want a guy like him out of prison?
July 13, 201511 yr To be fair who knows the position the guards were put in. If a drug cartel threatens your life or your wife's or children it does get tricky. Mexico is a little different from here as well. Agreed. But I'm sure that it is not just some guards, it most likely goes very high up in their government and money was involved.
July 13, 201511 yr Agreed. But I'm sure that it is not just some guards, it most likely goes very high up in their government and money was involved. O I agree. There is zero doubt Cartels have power over high ranking officials.
