What Version of the Bible do you like?

Featured Replies

I prefer the NIV for reading/study and I use it most often.

I also frequently use the KJV or NKJV. I like the poetic nature of the KJV.

I have grown fond also of the ESV in recent years.

I've always heard that the NASB was the most accurate of the translations. And I remember reading that it's written on a college reading level, while the NIV (1984) is on an 8th grade reading level.

I think you are right about it being the most accurate. By accurate, I mean most word-for-word. As to its reading level, I don't know. I also have heard that the NIV is at an 8th grade level which is about right, I suppose, for aiding comprehension.

NASB. That's the version the apostle Paul used...

Made me lol.

Reminded me of a joke from the movie A Knights Tale...

"The pope might be French, but Jesus was English"

I like the ESV. Easy to read and helps when I'm studying the Scriptures.

The best version of the Bible is the one you open and read.

Just out of curiosity, have any of the non-Catholics on here ever read any of the Old Testament books that were omitted in the Protestant translations of the Bible? I'd be curious to know what you think.

(Tobit, Judith, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, Baruch, I Maccabees, II Maccabees....and some additional pieces in Daniel and Esther.)

Studied them in Seminary. Great insight into the period between Testaments.

I don't know that I have sat down and read one the whole way through. I have read parts of a few. The two Maccabees books are good for the history of the Jewish people.
