"Gone with the Wind" should go the way of the Confederate flag.

I would venture to say that way more people under 50 have not seen the film than those that have. Just an uneducated guess.

True. I'm way over 50 and saw it for the first time a few weeks ago.

Wasn't a recruitment film, just an adaptation of a novel called "The Clansman". That view of history was still pretty popular at the time and was less outside the mainstream than many would think.

Still, it caused riots in some major northern cities and New York City even censored it. It's still banned in parts of Europe.

Griffith apologized profusely for the nature of the film and even made his next film "Intolerance", an extravagant spectacle depicting intolerance throughout human history, as part of his personal atonement.

It actually was a recruitmen film for the Klan, not necessarily endorsed by DW Griffith, but used by the Klan to jumpstart a renewed interest. The primary reason that Stone Mountain Georgia became the mecca for Klan activities in the early part of the last century.

Gotcha. Yeah from that standpoint I'm sure it was very useful to them.

Easiest 3 hours of credit I ever got. Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 was movie night!

I don't remember them all. I do remember The Battleship Potemkin, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, one night was all classic silent comedies, Citizen Kane.

I took essentially the same class in the late '80's, almost the exact same lineup, in a summer session. By far the easiest 3 credits I earned all at once...the next was a racquetball class

Bowling and volleyball for me.

Factoid regarding mapapa's college coursework. There were three areas in which I took more than one class and aced them all. All three areas started with "ph".

That explains a lot...:)

The slope's getting slipperier

and it is just getting started...

GWTW and The General Lee should never go, neither remind me of the civil war period. Gen Lee in fact is just the opposite, reminds me of boys having fun. I saw a episode the other day while flipping tv channels. How on earth did anybody ever sit through a episode of it. When I was little it seemed pretty good but man is seems awful now. Not funny just stupid but still gotta luv that car and Daisy

It seems as if the beginnings of a dictatorial government is at hand with this slippery slope. This political correctness is just the modern day version of a good old book burning. A number of dead dictators are burning a little hotter because they cannot be a part of this.
