How often does your program feed your players?

Featured Replies

I was just curious how much other programs feed their kids. Obviously, most teams are going to feed them a pregame and post game meal. But how often outside of that? Every fundraiser we send the kids out on we feed them. We also feed them on Mondays after big wins. I know that some of the bigger schools in Georgia feed their kids at least once a day and twice a day during the summer. What are Kentucky schools doing?

Raceland feeds before every game, and sometimes after away games that are more then 30-60 minutes away. During Team Camp, the players are fed four times a day for a week. Players are fed on Sundays during films. Then, there are a few special meals mixed in when something special is achieved.

Describe what you mean by "program". Does that mean the school pays for it and the team eats as a group? Or if a team Mom makes spaghetti and the team is invited and whoever wants to can show up?

Trinity Shamrocks have Wed night dinner every week. Great opportunity for parents to break bread with Coaches and Players. Always provide game day snack bags and box dinner to and from road trips. We often go out of our way to feed the road team when teams make an exit for a long road trip home.

Momma Rocks organization deserves 100% of the credit for all of the above. Amazing group of women making all of the arrangements for many, many, many years. We are lucky to have this group of women.

Middlesboro has a lunch program daily. It is served at the Community Center and is provided by Bell-Whitley. The middle school is serving lunch and breakfast, but I think that will end this week. As far as our football program, the boys are fed before every game. Away games, depending on the distance, they are fed before and after the game. We have the Veteran's Bowl, where veterans, and both teams are fed. This is provided by our boosters.

SK football team has the SK sideliners they feed the kids all the time.

Boosters is what I'm guessing. Parents & anybody else.

Before games, especially road games.

I wish we could do more and maybe we'll be able to in the future. Lots of hungry kids out there.

At Cooper, the "program" has been fortunate enough to adopt a policy of feeding the players to and from long road games. The JAMS (Jaguar Awesome Mom Squad) gives them a goodie bag every week - home or away. One family does cookies on the road, one coach does brownies. A group showed up every Saturday morning after the play-off wins last year and cooked a hot breakfast for the time between films and "work".

Specifically for summer? I think the JAMS supply a gatorade type beverage and a sandwich - or they did in the past. Sometimes it was popsicles or other cold treat.

The Senior families in the past have rotated hosting a Thursday night meal for the senior boys only. Haven't heard if that will continue.

There is a kick-off spring ball dinner (this year it was a taco bar) for the players and a cook-out of some sort in early August which includes family members. Both of those are paid for by "the Program" to my knowledge.

At SK the teams are fed every game day. This includes one entree two sides a salad and dessert with chocolate milk or Gatorade. The freshman get fed the same way on their game days. Any road game further than 50 miles they get fed on the way home as well. 7 on 7 tourneys they are given Gatorade fruit and granola bars. They are also given Gatorade or chocolate milk after workouts during the off season. I was totally shocked when I heard the yearly budget for the Sideliners.

Boosters feed the boys pregame at the fieldhouse for home and away games and set up by the buses after road games with sandwiches, drinks and snacks for the ride home.

We have a team chaplain that gets our pregame and post game meals donated by local restaurants. As far as feeding them at other times we'll have our booster club pay for it.

Franklin County feeds the team before every home game and feeds the team after away games outside of the general area. Our booster club provides the funds for the meals through fund raising from our players.

My memory is hazy, but if I recall the team is issued knives after the game and released into a nearby forest to hunt. And if they lose the game they don't get any knives.
