What's The Nicest Thing A Stranger Has Done For You / Vice-Versa?

Featured Replies

Clyde's post in the Premium Forum about buying milk for a stranger in need got me thinking. What's the nicest thing you've ever had a stranger do for you, and/or what's the nicest thing you've ever done for a stranger?

I picked up an elderly couple who had started walking down I-64 on my way to work several years ago after their car broke down. I took them home, after I had to stop by the pharmacy for the lady :lol2:. A year later, both came to my office and I did a new set of dentures for both. funny thing is they were driving a piece of junk 15 year old Buick, and they were both retired from Ashland Oil and loaded.

I've done small favors for people I don't know many a time; with a "pay it forward" admonition.

I try to buy dinner whenever I see a group of military, police or firemen eating out. Not so much being nice but more of a thank you for what they do.

I've had a ton of nice things done for me in my life. When we first moved into our house money was tight and I worked two jobs but I would often come home to find my yard cut. Couldn't afford a lawnmower and it saved a lot of trouble I would go thru to borrow one. Would also find vegetables by our back door on a regular basis. Plenty more but those two came to mind first.

I was running around on Super Bowl Sunday prepping for football festivities...and ran out of gas.

I had already walked up to the gas station, bought a gas can and was getting ready to fill up with a family in a very nice car and looked liked they had just gotten out of church and were in their Sunday best offered to help.

They could see my car was disabled (though they did not know it was just out of gas). This was before the days of cell phones and instant communications so that type of help was more appreciated back then.

I handed a hard up lady a 20 a few weeks ago . I befriended an alcoholic, severely depressed , handicapped lady last summer . I've given many people walking along the highways a ride . I just sent two kids to church camp on my dime at 363.00 apiece. About 6-7 years ago I bought a low end car for a teen that didn't have a mom or dad to take care of her . Last month we ( wife and I ) cooked a complete smoked pork loin dinner , BBQ beans and desserts for 50 recovering addicts . God has blessed me with much , I try to pass it along

Anything I've ever done for someone else pales in comparison to all that others have done for me. Maybe the biggest single incident of a stranger helping me, is when my kids were adopted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department at Christmas one year, and through that, we received food baskets and toys from the Hell's Angels, and financial assistance to help pay utilities. And the help from people who are friends has been immeasurable. I could write a book with all the help I've gotten.

Guy in Vegas gave me $100 for teaching him how to play Let it Ride. Funny thing is, I just learned how to play it 3 days earlier.

A gentleman paid for my college education for a few semesters. $20,000 of debt that I don't have because of him.

My wife and I were in Costa Rica in the middle of the jungle on the coast. EVERY restaurant down there was cash only. The conversion rate was crazy and I missed on my math. Restaurant owner from Portugal let us pay the next day and even bought our beers for the night.

Well done.

A stranger did this for you?

A stranger did this for you?

I guess I decided to skip over the "stranger" part of the question. The gentleman that did it was not a stranger but I still appreciate it nonetheless.

The reason he did it for me was because a stranger had previously done it for him when he couldn't afford law school.

Maybe the best thing I ever did , at least one of my better moments , was taking in my addicted nephew . He was at the end , next stop was jail or the street . Think all the bad things things you have ever seen on " Intervention " He was there . I loved him like my own son and didnt want his life to go that route . I've always wanted children and he was my first nephew/niece so we were very close as he grew up .

We took him in . With ground rules . They were broken . With a broken heart we ask him to leave , and he said he had no place to go . So he checked into rehab in Piketon Oh at New Beginnings . He thought he wouldnt last 48 hours . 6 months later he checked out early after being baptized and getting his life in order . 3-4 years later he is married and has a beautiful 1 yr old and works at for the Railroad . It was a long difficult hard ride and I'm grateful he is doing so well. Took a lot of hurt to get there .

A former 16th region star hoops player recently went thru the same place and is doing very well . They dont charge anyone to stay there . All donations . No govt funds . I donate every few months .
