Many are going to read this story , especially the part where officers failed to use force the 2nd time the officer fired shots at his wife, and say "double standard."' Why let the guy fire off the 2nd round of shots when you have him surrounded?

June 18, 201511 yr This is a whacked-out story. Seems like the other officers paid way too much deference to their friend. The wife may have already been dead after the first two shots; no way to know for sure unless you're putting the daughter on the witness stand against her dad. Nine kids. What a mess to leave behind. Wonder what kind of life the daughter in the car is going to have?

I think double standard is a gross understatement... Says he paced with a gun to his head for 30 minutes. Ex died shortly after arriving at the hospital. So while the cops were waiting and watching him pace, did that prevent the victim from reaching the hospital sooner where she could have survived?
June 18, 201511 yr Custody battle killing. Now he will never get to see the kids. They say that the greatest thing a man can do for his kids is to love their mother. And if you are divorced and you love your kids, you need to at least respect their mother.
June 18, 201511 yr Similar thing happened here a few years ago. The Franklin County Sheriff was told his deputy/friend was enraged at his estranged wife and on his way to find her. The sheriff squelched an APB to apprehend him and he eventually found his wife at a gas station in Salem, VA (Near Roanoke) and murdered her in broad daylight. Whenever supervisors seek to protect "their own" it rarely ends well.

Just in my 15 years here in Martinsville the above situation (took place in the neighboring county) and here in Henry County the long time Sheriff, (Frank Cassell) was arrested and convicted because he met with a friend/deputy who asked him how he could launder money from a drug selling (evidence) scheme he had going on. The Sheriff told him how he could do it and never reported it to anyone. He also turned his back on others who had many other schemes within the department. Then the FBI and helicopters swooped down one day and arrested him and other deputies. Ex-Sheriff Gets 8 Months for Cover-Up
