I was watching the Red Sox broadcast when it happened. I told my wife that if that bat hit someone that it could be bad. It broke off right above his hands and went flying just like he had lost his grip and slung it--except with a jagged end. The players all looked really shook up about it. I hope she's okay.

I'm surprised injuries like this don't happen more often. Line drive foul balls fly at rocket speeds. Prayers to the injured fan.

I personally don't really like the idea of nets, but at one point do they have to move in that direction. Scary stuff.

I'll never forget going to an ice hockey game with my kids when they were 10 and 11. A puck flew up over the rink and hit a girl square in the face. They had to take her out on a stretcher. Never could get my daughter to go and see another ice hockey game. Crazy, the random things that can happen to you as a spectator.

The thing is now that it happened in such a large scale they're going to have to put up nets. I expect a large settlement to come from this as well.

You can be paying all the attention in the world, and sometimes it still won't matter when it comes to getting out of the way at something coming so fast. Especially when you have other fans on both sides of you, and seats in front and behind you. Its not like you can run to get out of the way. Especially at places that have packed parks most of the nights.

Considering people have been able to win cases for things such as coffee being to hot and burning them. Then I think there is a good chance there will be a settlement with this. Those coffee drinkers assume the risk of the coffee being to hot, but somehow some people have won cases with that. Football players assume the risk of getting concussions, and they have won that. So I bet there will be plenty of legal ground to get a settlement here, most likely hitting the point of MLB not being proactive to keep things safe in the ballpark by not having enough netting.

The first and most important thing is hopefully she ends up being ok and fully recovers. Prayers are with her!

Tell that to the NHL & Columbus Blue Jackets who paid out a little more than 1.2 million in an incident where a fan was hit.
