Interested in hearing what camps kids throughout the state are attending over the next few months. I know that Coach J and others put together a great list of camps and it would be neat to hear of kids experiences at the various camps and whether or not any of these camp visits result in contact from the said school down the road.

Most kids will go to UC, UK and UL.

3 of our underclass guys (Jr's to be) attended the South Central Ky. Showcase in BG last week. Several in-state D2/NAIA schools there. About 80 kids. The parents who took them down said it was well-organized, liked that they were able to speak directly to the college coaches, and commented that the coaches made an attempt to connect with many of the campers.

 

I've got about 5 headed over to Ky. Wesleyan this Saturday.

 

Most of ours are planning to attend the WKU camp at Collins HS. A couple of the kids EKU is in contact with will spend a day at the Down and Dirty camp being held on their campus.

 

We'll have a bunch of guys going to Illinois U. and Purdue on June 19 and 20. In addition to that trip west, I have encouraged them to go in groups to TWO camps per week throughout June and early July -- one week/weekend to camps in Ohio/E. Indiana, another week in Tennessee, and any they can get to around Louisville area (UofL, Indiana St's satellite camp, the WKU camp at Collins, etc.).

 

I'll try to report out what I hear back from our kids and their parents.

Good stuff Coach J. Hoping that more coaches and/or parents can give us this type of information. I talked to Howard Feggins a few days after your schedule came out and it just did not work out for what we were looking for. Not surprised that it was well organized.

Agreed. Going to camp uninvited most likely leads to an expensive workout and not much else.

I know several NKY runningbacks will be hitting a bunch of camps that they was invited to.

Just my opinion: I wouldn't attend the UK camp unless you are personally invited, and even then I wouldn't miss other camps just to attend it. My son attended it and it was very disorganized, they didn't have enough coaches to evaluate half the players that were there and the coaches didn't see a fourth of the players personally. about one fourth of the players didn't even get measured and recorded on times.

 

There were some very good players there, that didn't get seen at all. And, I'm not talking about my son, but players I saw that were very good that I knew from around the state that the UK coaches didn't even see.

 

Yes, it was cool to be there and see the size of the camp, but it was a big commercial from most players, they were more concerned with playing UK highlight videos and getting pictures then they were evaluating players.

 

Just my two cents.

SK's Sandlin went to Kentucky Wesleyan camp and was offered a sholarship afterwords.

Attend smaller camps ie. Bowling Green State, Ohio U. Miami of Ohio, Marshall etc. A player will just be a number when attending big school camps. Unless your invited. Sure it would be fun to walk out of the training facility or stadium, but with all the numbers of kids, there will be not enough coaches.

Alot of bigger schools will have smaller schools there as well. For instance UC's camp will have a bunch of d2-d3 and some MAC coaches there too.

Most of the big school camps will have a good number of FCS, D2/NAIA, & D3 coaches there--the problem with those is the sheer NUMBERS of kids participating.

 

My advice: if a school is in contact with a young man, you should try to get to that school's camp. If they don't hold one (neither EKU nor Murray are able to hold 1-day camps this year), call the coach recruiting you and ask which large school camps they'll be working and make it a point to get to that camp. The key is for the school recruiting you to know you're there...there are just too many kids at UK, UofL, and even UC (used to be a fairly small camp, not now) for them to "find" a kid they don't already know about.

 

Email, text, facebook those coaches recruiting you and make sure they know you're going to be there.

Washington University in St. Louis is an NCAA DIII school that is ranked 14th in the nation academically. It ranks higher academically than some Ivy League schools and has nationally renowned medical and business schools. National University Rankings | Top National Universities | US News Best Colleges | page 2 Other professional schools include engineering, architecture and law schools where a kid seeking a professional degree can complete their bachelor degree in four years rather than taking the 3+2 year path that usually turns into 5 and 1/2 years if they want to play football during their senior years. A 26 to a 28 ACT score for a kid entering their senior year of high school will usually indicate they have a decent chance of getting into Washington University and generous academic scholarships are available if a student is accepted. The school is located less than five and one half hours drive from Lexington, KY which allows family to leave early in the morning from home here in Kentucky to attend games on the same day. Excellent school, very tough to get through academically,but, the rewards can be huge for a graduate of this Ivy League level school. Current head coach Larry Kindbom is 160-101 in his 26th year at Washington University in St. Louis.
