Chernobyl Pictures

Wow, a lot that I did not know.

The abandoned town is spooky. If I'm not mistaken they now study that area to see what will happen to an urban area when human intervention stops.

Mr. Cat and I watched the Chernobyl Diaries a couple months ago. Freaky movie!

These pictures are pretty cool except for the ones showing the effects of radiation on the body. I can't look at things like that.

The enormity of decommissioning a facility of this size, in it's contaminated state, is hard to imagine. Having spent a considerable amount of time in shut down power facilities, this story is very interesting and hard to believe what it has taken just to get it to today's standard

I've been slowly scrolling through and reading everything since this morning. Thanks for posting, cool stuff.

What a depressing story.

The fact that so many fire fighters, divers, etc, pretty much knew there prescence there would lead to an excruciating death is pretty grim. The link says many were volunteers. With the way communist propaganda likes the bend the truth, I wonder how many of these were political prisoners who "volunteered" in order to spare family, associates, etc.. Similar to how Rommel "volunteered" to commit suicide.
