There is I think its once a month during warm seasons. There are test you are supposed to have done as well to test the bacteria levels. Most places have third party companies come and do the spraying, not sure if they test as well.

Staph infections from turf abrasions are rampant. The field crumb typically helps retain just enough heat and moisture to keep everything alive and cooking until someone gets an open abrasion. Highlands has had ongoing issues, although some argue the incubator has been the locker room. Not uncommon to have locker rooms hosed down with bleach / water combination on a weekly basis at times.

 

I do think it would be hard to prove since players have access to not only the field, but the locker room and staph is just a bad, bad thing...jumps on and never wants to leave. Hospital trips for staph more than a few times for BB Jr when he was playing, probably a combination of turf and locker room issues.

 

We've had turf for four years and have not had a single staph infection. Oddly enough we had several when we had grass.

According to this link, the minimum temperature for MRSA to grow is 10°C (50°F), the maximum temp is 45°C (113°F), with optimal range of 30-37°C (86-98.6°F).

Correct...but the bacteria doesn't need to be growing in order to get into your system.

 

So long as a single live MRSA bacterium is introduced into your body, then good 'ol 98.6°F is right there, ready and waiting to incubate and grow the bacteria as much as it would like before medical intervention takes place.

I'd say it's likely the turf was the cause but no way it can be proven.

I worked in the health care industry for years. MRSA is a big deal to Hospitals, because if the patient develops any MRSA infections while there, the treatment for it usually will not be reimbursed.

 

So on inpatient admissions, the patient is tested for MRSA, by a nasal swab. This process is costly to the hospital, but not as costly as not being reimbursed by something the patient brought with them.

Did football field give player infection?

 

Have there been any other situations like this because of turf?? The field flooded big time this spring how safe is it now? Or is this just bullcrap?

 

....and how many Newport/NCC athletes have had similar issues? There is inherent risk in the game of football. Go chase an "entitlement issue payoff" elsewhere.

 

What's next beyond heat index readings, an approved bacteria count prior to kickoff...

I am unsure on the cost, it was out of my hands & done while I was teaching class by the district field maintenance crew. No $$$ came out of my athletic account to do this, so I have no idea.
