Which is why I was saying your statement of this years team being closer to the 2013 NIT is a little crazy. This coming years UK team resembles the 2011 final four team much more than the 2013 NIT. As you just posted that 2011 team did have some talent, and also had experience. Sounds a lot like this years upcoming team to me.

I think they'll probably have 5-6 losses throughout the year. As for their success in March/April, it's all about how well they buy into Cal's system. But I trust Coach Cal enough to believe he will have them as a contender.

Never once said they would demolish people. However to compare them to a bad 2013 NIT team is way off base IMO. This past season I am sure really spoiled most of us UK fans, and we forget how typical team actually looks like. This years team really did have everything post players, great defense, guard play and shooters and depth so even if we got in foul trouble it didn't matter.

 

Next years team as I have mentioned and others have mentioned probably will be a lot like the 2011 final four team. Solid players returning like a Liggins, Miller, a guy like Harrellson who stepped up, etc. This year we have people like Ullis who may be small but is vocal and a leader, Alex P who will be a senior, Lee who is a junior. Then you add in a guy like Willis who IMO could end up be like Harrellson. Then when you add in the freshman, it should be fine. That NIT team basically had to rely on freshman. That is why I don't see the comparison. This years team will lose some games, but will be right in the mix at the end of the year.

In comparing this team to 2013... Tyler Ulis is running this team, not Harrow.

 

Also, even with how bad Harrow was for them, they were 17-6 before Nerlans goes down.

The "freak-out" mentality about next year's team is funny. They have the (arguably) best PG in the country coming back, the #1 PG recruit, the #1 overall recruit, and potentially another top 10 recruit coming in. Oh, and they have 2 other Burger Boys returning for their junior and senior seasons.

 

NBA scouts asked all 7 UK players who entered the draft who from this past season would they want to go to war with. All 7 said Ulis. That's the guy leading them. He isn't Harrow like that 2013 team had.

Also, I only "compared" them to the 2013 team in saying that they could win up closer to that finish than the 2011 one. I'd consider out in the Sweet 16 to be in between those two.

 

Like 2013, next year's overall talent from top to bottom is a bit down, so that helps. Even 2011 lost quite a few games, and I suspect next year's team could lose 7 or 8.

 

My biggest concern with next year's team is that the staff was still out going hard after Swanigan, Vick, guys like that. It tells me that they think there are holes in our roster that need filled badly, because they seem to be popping up with lots of available bodies.

 

If we get Murray, then my analysis will change some, but there's still an issue with three of our four most talented players being smaller guards.

Maybe in your opinion, I've had them a couple of times and they are great. I've had then a couple of different places and CdM's are the best I tried down there.
