Purnell from Boone should be a candidate.

I am going to go with Todd Ramey. Seems like everytime I read the paper or posts on here that the kid had 2, 3 or 4 hits in a game. I have not seen any stats posted anywhere, but would be curious to see what his are for the season.

Been quiet on the updates this year. Who are the top teams and the top players on those teams? Haven't seen a coach's poll since the first couple weeks of the season.

Apparently there are 'gag' orders all around. Top teams I would say are Highlands in the 36th, CovCath and Beechwood in the 35th, Dixie in the 34th and then either St. Henry or Ludlow and in the 33rd take your pick of Ryle, Boone, Cooper and Conner. 2 pretty good teams not going to make it to Freedom Field over the Memorial Day weekend.

What kind of season has Conner's Ostertag put together? Heard more about him last season than this season, but I know he's a good player.

Purnell from Boone should be a candidate.

Stats? Your reasoning?

I think the overall depth of HHS will hurt them in the POY balloting. You could easily choose from Ramey, Whitford, Martin, Mills or Jones (not to mention Murray, Veneman, Bunning, Hennigan, Noe and others who fill very important roles on the team.)

Jones - #1 pitcher on the best team (record wise) in the 9th Region. 6 SO innings against Dixie last night make the point. That said, hard to give the POY to a PO.

No idea on the offensive stats for the other 4, but each have >3 or 4 HRs (Martin and Ramey probably have 7-10 each), a ton of RBIs and reasonably high batting averages. If there was only 1 "big bopper" in the lineup, it would be more impressive. Since they are all playing so well, my guess is the votes will be diluted.

Suspect none of them care. They are laser-focused on winning next week to capture 4th straight District crown and Memorial Day week to get to Lexington. Team goals are paramount.

Holy Cross's short stop Jared Seibert should be a candidate. He's hitting nearly 400 for the Indians. His record on the mound is only 2-3. But he has an era under 1 with 19 more strike outs than innings pitched

Tyler Lyons from Ludlow may get some votes. He is batting over .500 and I think has won 4 or 5 games pitching...

Stats? Your reasoning?

I can't tell you Colonel- fan's thoughts, but Purnell's pitching this season has been excellent except two bad innings against the dirty birds. You take away the two innings from that game and he is sitting around .065 era on 5 wins against quality teams. In district play, Purnell has got the win on all 3 games including one shutout. The stats for the three games per the Rebel website are 18 Innings , 67 batters, allowed 6 hits, 3 runs, only 1ER 21 k's , 5 BB with an ERA of .050. This is against good teams in, IMO, the toughest

district in the region. I think the district and region games need to play out to determine the POY. There is a lot of different game plans by coaches during the season. I think the true reading of a player will be decided on how they do during their district games, district tourney, and region tourney.

Like the other kids mentioned, I think Purnell would tell you his goal is to do his part to help his team reach their goals. Whoever gets the POY award, It is a reflection on the team around that player.

Hands down player of the year is Todd Ramey of Highlands. He is batting over .500 with 7 homeruns and 54 rbi. Todd has been on base every game this year but 2.. The kid can play any position on the field..When starting ss Jake Whitford was out for 4 or 5 games during the year Todd played ss and did a fantastic job. The kid just gets it done day in and day out..

Kyle Rowe for Beechwood. Most consistent player at the plate and at 3rd.

Nice year, but Ramey is the POY. BW has had the benefit of seeing a lot of less than stellar pitching in the effort to neutralize the big 3. Slow is the key. Ramey has had a great year against all pitching, not just lower level. When the pitching ramps up, the cream comes to the crop. BW has only seen a couple big timers this year, and the Big 3 have answered the bell when that happens. Pay attention to quality at bats vs quality pitching.

I love it when we quote HS stats. All at the mercy of the scorekeeper, I get a special kick out of the HS ERA #s .

This year, the top players in the region are:

Ramey and Whitford

Combs Stringer and Slusher

Harrison and Kerns

Zieglemeyer

Purnell

Siebert

Ty Lyons

Guess stats are too objective for me. Too many generous score keepers. Too many at bats against 70 MPH pitching. Too much leeway with ERA
