Who on Rockcastle's steel curtain of a defense, is going to stop Nick McCollum? One of the better wide receivers I have seen in the area...

Very true...BUT if Rock continually stops Garrard on the ground (which they won't), Garrard will put it in the air to McCollum and no one will be able to contain him. That's my opinion, and you have yours. Guess we will see whenever they play. :thumb:

The lost part of this argument is the Garrard defense, which allowed almost half as many points per game last year than Rock's. Against the only two common opponents, Garrard allowed almost 30 fewer...

 

At any rate, this is a Garrard thread - what they need to do is develop their kicking game and a couple more linemen.

 

As far as what they have returning - 8 defensive starters off a really good defense. A receiver who averaged about 28 yards per catch, and two 1,000+ yard rushers (not to mention the leading rusher through 4 games, who went down to injury), and an experienced QB.

Sounds like a good team coming up.

Just don't see Rockcastle having the athletes to play with Garrard. They could lose to either Boyle, Catholic, or both - but they are capable of beating either. Jlow is right - kicking game MUST improve, but they return two 1000+ yard rushers and an outstanding receiver, as well as the best lineman in the region, IMO.

 

Lex - I never have really understood the whole "schedule preparing" thing? If we went on non-district schedules alone, LexCath should have won 5 or 10 state titles by now. Games are about matchups and execution, IMO.

 

I'll take two state championships in the last 10 years. And as far as your schedule I do believe it is tough to play a team that is more battle tested than you are when you face them. If you play a lesser schedule and come into a game undefeated, and then face a team that is let's say 5-2. If the 5-2 team faced a tougher schedule playing the undefeated team may be a breeze if they are only undefeated based on competition.

 

I do believe we can revisit this again and I will admit if I am wrong.....

Garrard will be pretty good next year. They return two 1,000 yard running backs, and another that run for almost 1,000 but missed 2 games with injury. Slade Crutchfield will be behind center for his 3rd straight year, and is also a great punter . I see this team going 8-2, with loses to Catholic and Boyle.

Seems like alot of cart before the horse on this thread. Garrard will be competitive with anyone on their schedule if: they shore up the kicking game, develop depth up front (after losing multiple OL/DL), stay healthy, stay physical, and stay off BGP message boards.:sssh:

Garrard went for two almost every time last season. They did have a sophomore join the team later in the season and made two extra points in the game against West Jessamine. I know the staff was probably reluctant to use him when it mattered, but if he improves over the summer he could be an asset.

This is definitely an area of concern. There are some young kids on the line that likely can be good players and there are a couple linemen returning.

Absolutely. Losing Mike Redmon in the fourth game last season took a big weapon away from Garrard (although Devan Logan developed into a 1,000 yard rusher in his absence). Losing linebacker Clay Shuey in the playoffs may well have cost them the game against Bourbon County. Staying healthy is pivotal.
