Why did Cooper and Conner voluntarily request to play in 6A?

Featured Replies

Nope sure dont, wasnt Cooper 6A their first 2 years?

Keep making lemonade with Apples and limes.

Yep, so if we act as if the first 2 years in existence should mean they are a powerhouse, then ok.

I will take Coopers history in the post season everyday of the week over SK's. Not only has Cooper won or shared their district title 3 of their last 4 years, they also have 2 Regional championships in the last 3 years and a State Title game all in the first 7 years of their existence where SK only has 1 Regional Championship in 48 years.

Conspiracy theorists unite!! Let's review: What ONE THING do Conner and Cooper have in common? Who/what is the decision-maker here? No one can argue that Conner and Cooper are on the same track right now. Football is a cyclical game and Conner is not exactly on the rise, so YES - WHY WOULD THEY VOLUNTARILY MOVE UP?? Because it was not voluntary. For them or Cooper. The decision was made outside the AD's offices.

Happy now??

The Cooper faithful talk as if they are going to ride roughshod over all of NKY this fall.

Examples??

I'm hearing crickets........

It just irks me that people are this bothered (and bothered to the point of calling people in charge names) about a school they have no affiliation with.

????????

I was simply going to ignore this post but I can't let it go that easy.

First people whine and complain because NKY teams are supposedly "ducking" Highlands etc. Now that Cooper is playing them there is a built in excuse just in case Highlands loses because it is early in the season?!?!?!?!?! That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You do realize that every team is in the same boat don't you? You do realize it's also easier to play Cooper early in the season than at the end of the season also right? You do realize Cooper, just like Highlands, will have a new QB etec. and will also be trying to figure out their offense that early in the season just like Highlands don't you?

Please, don't be one of those that whine year after year about teams avoiding Highlands and then once teams finally do schedule them, excuses come rampant.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm simply stating that Cooper chose to play up in 6A instead of staying in 5A, where they fit enrollment wise. It may be because Highlands is playing up in 5A, too. I'm obviously not privy to their decision making with regards to realignment so I can't say. However, northern Kentucky 6A looks much easier than northern Kentucky 5A, which means playoff success should be much more attainable for a school like Cooper. By playing Highlands in the regular season, it would appear Cooper is challenging themselves with a top-notch Highlands program. That's good; they'll certainly reap rewards in their later games. But had they stayed in 5A, Cooper would have had to beat Highlands every year in the playoffs, which is very difficult.

Cooper and Conner went a combined 2-6 against SK, Boone, Ryle and Campbell last year. While SK has went 10-0 against those 5 teams in 2 years.

By the way, I'm not criticizing Cooper for playing up.

In other words, Cooper went 2-2, right? And lost key players right before and during the Campbell Co. game and were still banged up (down 6 starters on D) for the SK game. Keep typin'.....

Cooper had 60 yards total offense against SK and I think about the same against Campbell.

Kind of hard to have 60 yards of offense when they had 130 just in passing against Campbell.

Again, what does that have to do with anything unless you feel the need to keep trying to pump up your team that seems to make it a habit of early playoff exits?

So you are saying Cooper has no depth? If they have no depth they definitely can't compete in 6A.

So you are saying Cooper has no depth? If they have depth they definitely can't compete in 6A.

Again another comment made before even thinking about what you were posting.

Explain how Cooper can't compete in 6A when we've already shown in the past we've beaten every 6A team in NKY except for SK, and we've beaten those other teams multiple times. So how does that translate to Cooper can't compete?

Also saying "If they have depth they definitley can't compete in 6A" That makes zero sense.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm simply stating that Cooper chose to play up in 6A instead of staying in 5A, where they fit enrollment wise. It may be because Highlands is playing up in 5A, too. Again I don't know who made the decision or why they made the decision to have Cooper and Conner move up. My guess was because of the enrollment size growing each year and will be in 6A in a few years anyway plus the fact that the district teams for 6A would be much closer than their former 5A district teams such as So. Oldham and Grant Co. etc. it only makes more sense to play in a district that consists of teams in the immediate area.

I don't know if that is the reason or not and I don't know who made the deicsion if it was a school board decision or individual AD's decisions. To me it really doesn't matter. I think it would have been a great move if KHSAA did what they should have done and made the NKY 6A teams all in the same district. That would have led to some great football and great games that counted for something during the regular season. It would have been a great district of 6 teams. Now because KHSAA screwed up, they made 2 3 team districts which makes the regular season worthelss except for bragging rights.

The district Cooper was in in 5A was not an easy district either. Very competitive between the top 3 teams in that district and Scott the last couple years was finally making some noise too. The games between Cooper, Conner and So. Oldham usually were great games that always decided the district champ. the last 4 years had Cooper winning the district title outright in 2011, tied for distritct champ in 2012, and tied for district champ in 2014. Very competitive district and was a fun district to be part of.

Their district in 6A will be a lot of fun because it is with 2 other schools in the same county and close proximity of eachother. Would have rather had 6 NKY teams in the same district, but Ryle and Conner has always been fun games to attend when they both played Cooper. This new district should continue that.

So you are saying Cooper has no depth? If they have no depth they definitely can't compete in 6A.

Goodness, no!! That is not what I was saying AT ALL!! What I'm saying is, Cooper was soooo afraid of winning the close game against the Camels that they started injurying themselves ON PURPOSE! And then, the Jags were literally threatening to quit the team if Coach made them play against SK - I mean, they were soooo intimidated. We literally could not get a single back-up to go into the game, we were using 7th and 8th graders instead because they just didn't know any better.

Oy vey!!!

Looks to me like we have a winner but this begs the question why were Cooper and Conner forced to move up to 6A?
