Also is Hoop Dreams playing 17U after all or what?

Also is Hoop Dreams playing 17U after all or what?

Yes and no. Hoop Dreams-Black is the B Team. Hoop Dreams-Orange is the A Team.

If Hoop Dreams Black is playing and Goodin wanted to play at State, why wouldn't he play with them since it is the same organization?

Bottom Line.... State AAU Tourney is not during NCAA Live Period so the only reason to play is for the Best Team in Ky bragging rights. As a coach what does it tell your kids when you bring other players in ( I don't believe in you) to win, what does it say to their parents? It screams this is about me and not your boys. What if these players you bring in get hurt and have to sit out the most important July of their aau years. All for false bragging rights !!! because you didn't have the best team or you wouldn't be bringing others in if you did.

I am coaching Shining Stars 17 U at got a call Monday night from a HS coach and he offered me 2 players that could play this weekend. He told me that they would definitely help my team. Knowing the 2 players, they would definitely make my team better, but i refused to take them and take time away from the boys that made a commitment to me and our organization. I don't know if we will win a game or not this weekend, but what would it have said about me, if i would have brought in 2 ringers for one weekend and taken time away from these kids. MY TEAM IS ON FLOOR!

Surely there isn't a coach in AAU who would reject a top 100 (nationally) player for the weekend.

Most would take top 100 player. Hoping someday to reap the benfits later. This is whats wrong with AAU! Sportsmanic I truely repect you for your reply.

I remember another thread that asked if parents would allow their sons to play on a B team for an organization. I guess Mr. Goodin has given his opinion on the question and it appears it is an overwhelming NO. Seems odd to switch to another team if your organization if fielding a team in the same tournament.

I really respect what you have said here. Unless you were short players then you take your team and compete. You have coached and trained these kids, now let them play. Building teams for a couple games just to have bragging rights in the state isn't coaching basketball.

I would think it would mean more to win with the kids that you have had on your team the whole year? Kentucky should have added Bobby Portis just before the NCAA Tournament.

But I don't begrudge them for adding him either. Different methods for different people and if their kids are all good with it and excited then more power to them.

Winning the state AAU tournament is a big deal to these programs in my opinion. That's just another accolade to add to the mix when trying to get more sponsorship and more opportunities.

My team plays the Louisville Lightning at 805 on Court 1 at KBA Friday night. Should be a fun game.

I'll be sitting ringside for that one. Looking forward to it. :thumb:

Ky AAU State is better than West Virginia and not near as good as Indiana AAU state. I really dont see it as that big of a deal. The bigger deal would be adding some young stud from another AAU team just to play in a tournament that all you get is a 2 1/2" fake gold metal. But in the end you are saying to those kids & there parents that you are not good enough to compete. Why isnt this young man team playing in the Ky AAU state.
