April 13, 201511 yr I have been to Rio Grande a couple of times and I don't get the fascination. Yes, it is good but there isn't anything special about it. Yes, I would recommend it. Honestly, I don't see a huge difference between most of the places listed that I have eaten at. They each are good and have their own little tweaks. My question is what makes Rio Grande SOOOO much better? Why is it that much better than the other places listed?

The difference between a great and good Mexican restaurant mostly comes down to service. I have never had really bad Mexican food. And almost all of them are fairly cheap and provide large portions.
April 13, 201511 yr Montoya's, Buttermilk Pike exit off I 75. A local community favorite for probably 20 years. For the chain Tex Mex type of restaurant, Moe's is very good, located in the Crestview Hills Town Center. I'm glad you mentioned that. I was planning on getting some Texas Road House Tuesday evening but I may have to hit up Montoya's instead. I can't remember having ever ate there in the past.
April 13, 201511 yr Another vote for Mi Tierra in Fort Wright My parents love that place. I usually just go to the Rio Grande in Independence though, it's about 10 minutes closer.

April 13, 201511 yr The reason that I like Mi Tierra is that it has some dishes that are not very hot and spicy. I have issues where I do not handle onions and peppers very well (which are automatically put in items elsewhere). I love the Quesadilla Hawaiana (without onion, of course) which has chicken and pineapple and is covered with that fantastic cheese sauce.
April 13, 201511 yr El Coyote is the place, and it's been closed for at least 5 years or so. The original is still open in Anderson Twshp. The owner had franchised a few locations around the area which all closed as well. Recently, they had a spot downtown where Cadillac Ranch was, but it was only open less than a year as well. Great food, and if you're ever in Anderson Township, it's worth eating there. I ate at there a few months ago and it was awful. They have changed ownership and it wasn't at all good like it used to be. Don't waste your time with this place anymore.
April 13, 201511 yr Rio Grande has the best fajitas in the greater Cincinnati area. Not sure about their other food because I ALWAYS get fajitas when I go there. The chips and salsa are great too.
April 13, 201511 yr I ate at there a few months ago and it was awful. They have changed ownership and it wasn't at all good like it used to be. Don't waste your time with this place anymore. Really?? Jim O'brien is no longer the owner?? It's been about a year or so since I've spoken with him. I know the failed downtown location was a pretty tough pill to swallow, but I thought the Anderson location would remain strong. Guess I was wrong.
