August 12, 201511 yr I'm with Mountainref on this one. This kid made up a story that implicated Bryan Station and had the whole state talking crazy about Bryan Station. NOBODY took up for Bryan Station when this story came out and NOBODY has apologized to Bryan Station after this story was proven to have been false and fabricated in a made for Lifetime movie manner. I honestly don't care that they took him out of the yearbook but to assume they took him out because he is gay and not because of his actions is jumping to conclusions. IMO this isn't discrimination. It's smart.
August 12, 201511 yr Was he actually excluded from the yearbook? From what I have read he was excluded from the basketball team pictures or something like that.
August 12, 201511 yr So what we are saying is that a big liar faced consequences? Sounds fine to me. Who cares if he is black, white, gay, straight, or covered in purple polka dots?
August 12, 201511 yr Can someone summarize this for me? I remember some wild story about another team from Lexington on their bus. I read Mt Ref's comment at the top. Has the story been verified or was it a lie? The story was a lie. The way it goes, the kid was called a homophobic slur in the handshake line at the end of the Betsy Layne/Bryan Station game during the Christmas Tournament at Lexington Catholic. The story didn't name the school but it stated they lost to a local team by 32 points. Bryan Station beat them by 32 so people did the math and Bryan Station became the local school that the story vaguely mentioned. According to the story Bryan Station kids knew he was gay the whole game and they purposely called him a homophobic slur to "out" him. The kid then goes into the locker room after the game and has an emotional outbreak as a result of being outed by the Bryan Station basketball team and he then outs himself to his teammates. They are great teammates so they rally around him and support their teammate, as they should. Well, apparently when they left the school that night the whole Bryan Station team jumped into their cars and chased the Betsy Layne bus back to their hotel. This caused grave concern to Betsy Layne and they allegedly contacted Lexington Catholic and told them the story. As a result Lexington Catholic then had some kind of security setup whenever Betsy Layne played their remaining games so that Betsy Layne could continue on with the tournament. No further incidents happened after that. That's how I remember the story. There may be an actual link to the story in the beginning of the thread. 1. I was at this whole tournament. I never saw any security anywhere at all the whole tournament and no one at the tournament heard anything about this incident. 2. No one at Bryan Station knew anything about this incident until the story came out. They never publicly responded with any comments and to this day unless you know someone in the system you'll never get any comment other than "that whole story is false". They are not pleased at all with this story and I don't blame them one bit. Totally unfair and one sided story that had no desire to search for the truth.
August 13, 201511 yr Was he actually excluded from the yearbook? No. His "individual" senior picture was not on the page. He was in the team photo however. He is listed(with photos) several, several times in the yearbook in various other clubs/sports/ect. He told a half-sided story months after the incident and now this the when the year book came out back in May. If he was so upset why didn't he say something then?
August 13, 201511 yr "The student appears in the yearbook in fifteen separate photos," the release says.

Unless I read it wrong, the yearbook double-page spread was honoring the senior basketball players and his individual picture was left out while the rest of the seniors were included. I have a hard time believing that was an "error." Even if you believe the kid stretched the truth on the Bryan Station incident — and I believe he did — it's still pretty clear he was excluded for being gay and speaking out about it, and drawing attention to Betsy Layne as "that school with the gay kid on the team."

Even though he requested a digital file of his pictures from the photographer for "approval and editing" and when he returned the digital file his photo wasn't in there? Reminds me of The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
