They couldn't officially talk with the guy until Xavier was eliminated from the NCAA tourney. Travis Steele will get the job. It realy wasn't that complicated, give them a few days to iron out the details.
April 3, 201511 yr If they don't take Brannen they will miss out. I know Brannen would love to get the job they should have hired him over Bezold at the time. Brannen is one of the top recruiters in the country and NKY needs a guy like that. He can coach and recruit.

On the quoted, it's been two-plus weeks, which is a long time in the college world. ...As for everything else, I agree with several comments about the search committee thing. Bad idea. Sounds as though NKU is going to end up with who they hoped for though. Couple questions though. Why would they fire Bezold if they know there's a chance they won't even be able to talk to their "target" for a couple weeks? Why not wait until they can talk? Why couldn't they talk to the X assistant? Didn't one of the Ohio St. coordinators coach in the national championship football game this year after taking a job at another school? How'd that school gain permission to talk to this guy? What's the difference in the two situations? I'll start unwrapping my Snickers now, I may be waiting awhile.

There was time for phone calls, time for people to call Bothof on Trav's behalf, but not time to prepare for and execute an interview. Travis would have had scout for either Ole Miss or their opponent, then again would have probably participated in Georgia State prep. I have never heard of a MBB coach at Xavier interviewing for another job pre-elimination. I am sure it happens, but there wasn't time in this case, so they waited. Better for Dave it happened earlier, gives him more time to find work.

Happens a lot more in football, but does happen in basketball. X guys are loyal and have been for 100 years, so I do get the gist of what you are saying. On the second bolded, I agree. Just makes NKU look slow on the uptake as a result. Not the best picture for them to paint right now in the community.
April 5, 201511 yr I am wondering why some people are in such a hurry for NKU to hire a new coach. I would think the important thing is to get it right. Who really knows what's going on. Maybe they had someone in mind the entire time but someone unexpectantly put in for the job, maybe someone they did not think they could get. But no matter what the reason, I just hope it's the best for NKU.

April 6, 201511 yr Any potential landing spots for Bezold? From an outsiders view, never was given a chance to make a dent in the new league. NKU won big in D2 using D1 transfers. IMO, he needed time to create recruiting ties in the major US cities in order to be competitive in D1.
