May 17, 201511 yr Had a great time at the bourbon tasting last night. We ended up with 17 bourbons, including a bottle of Prichard's Double Chocolate. I didn't get a picture of that, since it was with the desserts. Didn't try it either, but Mrs. S didn't like it. Here is the rest of the bourbon ...
May 17, 201511 yr One of the fellows brought some Salomon Maduro hand rolls from Long Ash Cigars, in Ybor. I brought 8 of the cigars I got yesterday from CI in that humidor deal, a couple of Gurkha Park Avenues, and 3 Tabanero's. I personally had the Oliva O series that came with the humidor. It went well with the Breckenridge I was sipping.
May 17, 201511 yr The food was amazing. The hosts, who are from New Jersey, have really fallen in love with the Kentucky bourbon culture. The food reflected that, especially the hot brown casseroles and the select cheese that supposedly goes with bourbon. The food offerings ... Hot Brown Casserole Crab Cakes Shrimp Cocktail Pineapple and Kielbasi kebobs Filet Mignon on crostini with a red pepper sauce and capers Crostini w/ goat cheese and fig preserves Deviled eggs Antipasto skewers Cheese ball (Mrs. S's contribution.) Manchego and Gouda cheeses (with honey to top - helps pair with the bourbon) Vanilla Almonds Cashews Lemon Bourbon Bundt cake with bourbon glaze Southern Pecan pie squares I tasted all, but the desserts. I filled up on the shrimp, skewers, cheese ball, and deviled eggs, though. I was getting enough carbs from the bourbon.

May 18, 201511 yr Celebration weekend. The youngest of the cold weather clan graduated from the University of Illinois. My son and a several of his buddies that have tailgated with us for the last four years all graduated. We pulled out the fold up chairs and kicked back on the lawn. I treated them to Padilla Signature 1932 Robustos and a bottle of Old Medley 12. All four of my boys have now graduated college.
