2015 Class 6A Preseason Top 10

Good thing this thread isn't talking about who will win the 6A championship but who we think will be in the top 10. No one claimed any of the teams will be able to beat Trinity or St. X, but honestly, how could you expect them to?

Shrug. Bowling Green managed it for four years, despite having a lower male enrollment than any 6A NKY school.

I agree with your point that this thread is about the top 10 not who would win the championship, but I grow increasingly tired of people who act like Trinity and St. X don't earn those championships. Unless I am interpreting your last statement incorrectly, in which case my reaction is unfounded in this instance.

SK returns their starting qb and running back. Return around 12 kids that started at least 1 game.

No one is saying they do not put in the work,, you do not maintain a level of excellence over time without a good system in place. However, I would like to see how the programs would fair if they only had a certain district to pull from. I am not saying their record would be any different,, but you have to admit,, as long as you can go out and get the players you want,, you do have somewhat of an advantage.

No I totally think that they earn their championships I take nothing away from those teams. But look at a team like Cooper as an example, in a school where I believe they had maybe 650 boys this year having to play a team in Trinity who has what 1,400 boys? That is double the players, and take into account the number of players that come to Trinity from Indianapolis, and other areas, they already have a leg up because of enrollment and ability to recruit and tradition.

Trust me, I have nothing but respect for those teams. They are the best, year in and year out, but I also think that they have a natural leg up on most public school 6A schools.

Which is why Scott County is lobbying the KHSAA with NKY schools to adopt the current set-up permanently. I am resigned to the fact that this is going to happen. Trinity will play the "other" Jefferson County district in the first three rounds before facing the best western Kentucky has to offer in the semi-finals. The irony here is Scott County will fade from the big school conversations once 2017 gets here and the new school is opened. :meh:

If you can't beat 'em, litigate 'em? :lol2:

Sigh... that is a real disappointment. Is there any lobbying against that? I suspect Trinity and St. X won't say much given that their word won't hold much weight with the KHSAA anyway. However, I would imagine Male and Manual would be unhappy to get permanently stuck with the hardest road to the state finals.

Why should Louisville 6A get a luxury that no other class in the state gets? Don't you think CovCath would love a system where they could meet Highlands in the finals? Or maybe Warren Central would like a system where they don't have to meet Bowling Green until the finals. Or Boyle County and Lexington Catholic. How many times in the old 1A were NCC and Beechwood the best 2 teams in the state in 1A, but had to play each other in the third round because, wait for it... They were in an actual geographic region together. The list goes on and on. Should we separate the 7th region in basketball so Trinity and Ballard don't have to play each other until the sweet 16?

The fact is 6A has legitimate geographic regions that make sense logistically. There are 2 Lexington districts, 2 NKY districts, 2 Louisville districts and 2 WKY districts. The Lexington, nor the NKY regions should have to drive through Louisville to get to Western KY in order to play a playoff game when they could drive an hour/hour and a half to get the same thing done.

Remember the Super District complaints from a few years ago because it didn't make sense geographically? Thankfully that is now fixed geographically.

The KHSAA either needs to rotate the regions in the rest of the classes in the state or make 6A the same way as the rest of the state and match up regions/districts geographically.

It was the OTHER 6A schools that lobbied for the first round match-ups to be rotated in the first place. No one wanted to face the Louisville schools in the first rounds every year. Now suddenly they don't want to rotate anymore? Why? Just more of the NKY 6A schools dodging competition.

That would be a good point if not for a few problems.

1. Only recently has this 'geographic region' being all on one side of the bracket been enforced. The teams were on different sides of the bracket for decades, but apparently they were 'too good' and that system had to be ended.

2. It would be entirely unnecessary for Lexington or NKY to make that a trip until the state semis. Simply put one Louisville and one Western district as the top western quarter bracket, and one Louisville, one Western in the top eastern quarter bracket. The travel times remain the same until you reach the state semi-finals yet there is an equal chance for every school to earn their way to the state finals.

3. Last I checked Warren Central and Bowling are in two separate classes, so that example doesn't hold any weight. So for the others, make sure they are in opposite districts and use the system I described above. I am all for the best teams making it to state regardless of where they are from. It makes no sense to break one class just because all the others are broken, instead of fixing the broken ones.

This may be true. I do not know. The difference is this the geography of the new alignment. 2 Lexington, 2 NKY, 2 Louisville, and 2 WKY. I am not sure, but I don't believe that was the case before. It doesn't make sense to geographically to rotate who plays who. Match up the 2 WKY districts, the 2 Louisville districts, the 2 Lexington districts and the 2 NKY districts. The KHSAA can rotate the Semi's if the want, but to rotate the who plays who in round 1, 2 and 3 makes zero sense when considering geography.

2. This is fine as long as the actual regions NKY, WKY, Louisville, and Lexington stay in place for the first 3 rounds.

About twelve hundred for Trinity, thirteen hundred for St. X. Bowling Green has six hundred boys. And once more see their past four years against St. X. I will not deny that tradition and enrollment (although I can't recall hearing about any players from Indianapolis), give them an advantage, but that advantage is not a big as people like to pretend. It gives a good excuse for losing, but as Bowling Green has shown, that's all it is. An excuse.

Bowling Green only had a certain district to pull from, and they fared pretty well.

It is 100% true, led by the NKY contingent, the same one's that are now pushing to stop it. It may (no probably) makes sense geographically to do stop doing it, I just find it absolutely laughable how much the NKY powers that be will do to dodge playing any of the Louisville schools.

If numbers was the HUGE advantage a lot of people think it is why is Dunbar such an abysmal football school? They have the largest public school enrollment in the state? How is Highlands able to not only complete with but regularly doninate in their class when they are one of the smaller schools in their class, and now will play in a larger class.

Just because I don't know, when did it begin and why would NKY have led to the change? Wasn't it Louisville vs. the rest of the State for a long time?

1. But it does change how it's suddenly being enforced to make the top title winners and typically the strongest teams in the state play out each other, which opens an easy path to the state finals for anyone on the opposite bracket, and leading to blowout championship games.

2. Hmmm... not sure if I got my point across. The new tournament would look like.

Louisville 1/Western 2..................Louisville 2/Western 1

.........................State Championship

Lexington 1/NKY 2......................Lexington 2/NKY 1

The winner of each quarter bracket would take on the one above/below them in the semis.

3. Well, I'll be dipped. You are correct about those two. My point about the others still stands though.
