Belmont 88 Murray State 87

Featured Replies

Will not get a bid and do not deserve one. They improved since their early season struggles, but how they lost the Valpo and Xavier games speaks volumes. Had those been competitive I may feel differently. They blew their first game against Houston after leading it by double digits. It is impressive what they accomplished but they can't be let in.

For the game. Wow. I knew it was going to be a battle when Belmont had already drained 7 threes before the 10 minute mark of the first half. Payne was off from the field, but still showed his big timeness drilling a dagger three, just as he had done on Friday night. Also had 10 assists. Belmont is so fluid on offense.

What Rick Byrd does is amazing. He is just an incredible coach.

As for the bolded, Murray State now is very different than Murray State then. Belmont would have beaten a lot of teams last night. Heart breaking loss for the Racers but Belmont was hitting unbelievable shots against good defense.

Mediocre to poor teams getting in with lots of losses over mid-majors with solid records is the main beef.

Texas has 12 losses. It will almost certainly have 13 after the conference tournament - yet the ESPN guys said they are a lock.

The SEC will probably still get 5 teams in even though only 2 are ranked and 2 showing up in the 'got votes'. Why - because they are the SEC and an appearence means money - that I believe get shared with other teams.

Not sure if Murray State is 'deserving' - but they are more deserving with a 32-5 record than a lot of majors that will likely slide in.

Murray State is 27-5, not 32-5

Murray State ain't beating Texas more than 3 times out of 10. That's why they don't deserve to be in.

Here's the shot that I felt really did Murray State in...like I said, Belmont beats a lot of teams shooting like they did last night:

Murray doesn't deserve a bid. They've beaten no one. When a team like Illinois State is your best win, it means you've played an awful schedule. Heck, outside of Xavier, they don't even have a "good loss" on their resume.

How many "tournament teams" or "probably tournament teams" did Murray State beat?

In what world is Illinois State making the tournament?

They'll make a tournament, just not the tournament.

Ahh, gotcha. Misunderstood what you were saying. :thumb:

If we are talking NCAA Tournament teams only...they lost to Xavier, Valpo and Belmont and also have a win over Belmont.

If WKU finds a way to win C-USA, Murray State has a win over the Hilltoppers, too.

A) You are really harping on rankings and others "getting votes" -- honestly, those are completely superfluous to this conversation. They matter not at all.

B) You keep referencing Texas as a team that should be excluded for Murray State. Texas will be a bubble team pending the Big 12 Tourney, but they have two wins over the RPI Top 25, Baylor and West Virginia. Also have a Top 50 win over Iowa. As has been alluded to, Murray's best win is over Illinois State, who will end up about 66 in the RPI. Murray has beaten ONE team in the RPI Top 100 all year...which is staggering. They have 15 wins over teams outside the RPI Top 200. Xavier has 12 losses, similar to the Texas team you harp on, but have beaten FOUR teams in the RPI Top 25. This isn't even apples to apples.

Murray chose to play very regional non-conference away games, instead of building the best schedule they could. They played at MTSU, Xavier (very good opponent...and got smacked), Evansville, and Southern Illinois, which didn't leave them much room for error with the committee.

Honestly, I'd LOVE Murray to get in, but I can't see any circumstance where that comes to fruition.

At least EKU had the win over Miami on their record. :thumb:
