March 5, 201511 yr I think it's just marketing to grab attention. "Indiana Coach" draws more attention than "Tom Crean" I feel like. I think the program has been so low and Crean is sort of a "non-name" that INDIANA catches more eyes than CREAN. Imagine if it were Kentucky. They could say CALIPARI on hot seat and all eyes would catch. Saying CREAN, honestly, there are lots of people who wouldn't recognize his name. And that tells you all you need to know about how far Indiana has slipped in the last 20~ years. That's what I was trying to say, but you said it better with examples haha!
March 5, 201511 yr But Rick Barnes is a household name? HAHAHAHA! He has been to a final four ...just sayin'
March 5, 201511 yr He has been to a final four ...just sayin' Crean went to one, too, but at Marquette, not Indiana.
March 5, 201511 yr Crean went to one, too, but at Marquette, not Indiana. That's true, same final four, I was there in New Orleans 2003
March 5, 201511 yr A guy named #BrianTSlade called into KSR and said IU was a lock to get Zimmerman and that Crean's job was safe. This a day after Zimmerman narrows his list and leaves IU off of it. Basically said there was a reason IU was left off of the list and that he was still coming.
March 5, 201511 yr Crean took over a tough situation and with the UK win in 2011 was catapulted to savior status. The next season in a weak field IU consistently underperformed despite being what should have been the best team. They got a 1 seed by default, but still bowed in the Sweet 16 and could have lost in the round of 32. And since that time it just doesn't seem a solid action plan has been put in place by Crean and company.

March 5, 201511 yr I would agree with all of this. I am not sure if Crean felt Zeller and Oladipo would be 3 and 4 year guys, respectively, and it just snow balled from there?

March 5, 201511 yr Indiana's Tom Crean buyout clock - Extra Mustard - SI.com Saw something last night that his buyout drops significantly, this year, if he were to get another coaching job. I think he'd be likely to find another school that'd want him, wouldn't you? Of course, if I were owed that kinda money, I may just take a year off and cash in. :iduuno:
