What will happen to Boyle, Highlands, Danville, Beechwood?

Featured Replies

Will the KHSAA change the playoffs for Boyle, Highlands, Danville, Beechwood? If they are going to do it for X and T, why not these schools? The KHSAA will need to force Boyle and Highlands and Danville and Beechwood to play just as early in the playoffs as X and T. These schools have dominated to the same or great extent as X and T.

If the KHSAA does this for X and T, I think there will be grounds for another lawsuit if they don't to other schools that have done just as well.

RunFirst, I don't have any problem with them moving Highlands bracket around. You either win the state title or you lose it. Just saying you played in the state championship doesn't do much for me personally.

First of all, they are just miles away from each other , the only reason why one comes out of the east and one comes out of the west is because of $$$$$$$$$$. They draw a big Louisville crowd and is really smart for business, but this is not a business. For years Danville and Lex Cath did have to face each othe an dright now, Highlands plays in the region with Lex Cath. So I don't understand your gripe. We should not divide Louiville just so they can get the big gate.

The ONLY reason mentioned to move X and T around is due their success.

If you are good enough to get a ring should not make a difference.:thumb:

It's not like people aren't going to show up for the X/T game in the playoffs. While it might make the championship game a little less competitive to start I think there is a chance to start a nice Lex/Louisville rivalry.

The biggest problem I see if this is being done to pit the two against each other is that all the other teams in that side of the state are getting the shaft.

If you think about it isn't Male, X and Manual in the same District? It's not like these teams are slouches and don't get the same treatment.

You may be right, maybe if they make X and T play earlier in the playoffs a Louisville vs. Lexington rivalry may develop. That would give St.X a chance to defeat a Lexington team once in a while. Trinity has enjoyed this activity for years.

RunFirst I am trying to go off topic with your thread but it made wonder something?

Wasn't there a realignment of the playoff format in the mid 1990's to where T/X could meet in the state football championship? If so, who voted on this?

It used to be City (Louisville) vs State at Large title game. Early eighties it was changed because it the State at Large teams did not like that it guaranteed a Louisville team in the finals. It ALSO guaranteed a non-Louisville team in the finals. LOL!!!! Maybe those same folks would like to go back to the old method now.

I would say (based on what was said on this site in another post) that it was CONJECTURE by a reporter at THIS most-recent meeting that it was the *only* reason.

However, this issue has been kicked around a LOT in the past.

I've been in meetings before where there was (again another case of) CONJECTURE that "X and T being so close geographically but still meeting in the finals" was some kind of underhanded plot by the KHSAA to make more money since they get revenue from the FINALS and if they were to meet in any other playoff game they wouldn't.

So, the conjecture in THAT discussion was that what's been in place for years (T and X being in opposite semi-states), was being done for the exact OPPOSITE reason as what was CONJECTURED to be the new direction.

My point is that whatever is done with T and X, they are such high-profile, and so GOOD at what they do, that non-T/X people will always assume that whatever is done with them is somehow something the KHSAA is doing in FAVOR of them; while T/X people might think it's something the KHSAA is being pressured by others to do AGAINST them.

Personally, I can see only arguments for keeping them apart until the finals...

* the state has to be divided SOMEWHERE...and to divide it in Louisville (as it is now) makes a lot more sense, for instance than what happens in 2A -- where you could have a Finals game scenario between CORBIN (EASILY an "eastern" school) and MIDDLESBORO -- two teams that used to be in the same DISTRICT!

* if in Louisville, what does it matter WHERE in Louisville? If putting X and T in opposite regions helps "balance out" the numbers in each, what's the harm? I think a lot of people that complain of "conspiracy" don't realize what has to get done in terms of NUMBERS-BALANCE in districts and regions and why LOUISVILLE is the easiest place to achieve this in 4A because of the sheer number of schools you have to split up.

* if there really was some kind of "conspiracy," seems the KHSAA would've tried to figure out a way to put MALE in a district other than with Male -- maybe where they'd have to face each other in the SEMI-FINALS rather than a regional championship.

* if you've got two programs that are PERENNIALLY the two best (hard to make any argument otherwise for the last 30 years), why NOT have them separate until the finals if you can? People that complain there's a "conspiracy" should actually realize that if X and T met BEFORE the finals, they'd have a game at Papa John's where THEY could split the revenue, rather than the KHSAA getting the gate (in other words, they could argue that "the rich are getting richer" -- LITERALLY!).

One good thing that could come from this is X could no longer complain about how easy T has it in the playoffs. LOL!

Thanks I couldn't remember when it changed?

Who are the folks that decided this?? Was it the KHSAA? BOC? AD's?

Here is one more question or opinion...the only way that you can not "guarantee" a Louisville school to be in any football playoff is to not let them play. It seems to me that this whole deal is more about finding a way for Louisville schools lose than anything else.

Two of our rings were from beating Henry Clay and Bryan Station. Bring them on.

No, you don't think... Why that would be... down right...

What difference does it make how the playoffs are aligned?? Like has been said before, if you are good enough to win a State Title in the given year, it shouldn't matter who you play or when you play them.
