Seeing them knocked out of the Tournament in the first round of Districts got me thinking, "When was the last time a Notre Dame basketball team completed the season with a losing record. It took considerable time to come up with the answer as it's been quite a while.... 1998-1999.

 

To finish second in state two years ago, to falling all the way to 13-17 is a huge leap.

I know somebodies gonna say they play a tough schedule, but I would bet if you checked closely that could be said about there schedule every season.

so what are you attributing this "fall" to? The coach? Did he forget how to coach from last season? The players? Did they return a lot or a little from last year? Did they have injury/sickness issues?

One season doesn't make the start of a new trend....

If you inherit a team that finished 2nd in the State, and you don't make it out of the region is that success?

Then you follow that up with 13-17 and a first round District loss.

There is a lot of talent in the 9th Region this year. You could say the same thing about NCC. Leave coach Faust alone. If he fails the next 2 seasons then blast him. Remember the cupboard is not always full.

Foust is a good coach just didn't have the talent they have had in years past, lot of injuries as well. You can't say the same about NCC, they have a winning record and going back to the regional.

I don't like threads like this...programs run through cycles all the time...might be 4-yr cycles or 10-yr cycles. Why do we want to recap a team's season and state something like this. Are people out here thrilled to see this happen? Did NDA have an idea the season would end like this? Did Brossart expect their season to go like this...14-13? Teams get an influx of players/talent that can carry a program for a few years, and then you dont get that for a year or two. Sure, NDA, Brossart, NCC had non-typical seasons compared to the recent years and successes they had.

I know it's just an opinion. These schools probably saw it coming two years ago and knew what to expect.

Not many teams would make it to the Regional with Holy Cross and Holmes in the district

I agree it does go in cycles, NDA and Broassart will bounce back as for NCC they obvioulsy aren't having the season they did last year but i believe they have won 20 games so not bad considering what they last a year ago. But again these teams are fine and will recover. NDA has nothing to worry about there is talent int he pipeline.

I think that LCA has fallen on harder times than Notre Dame in girls basketball in my opinion. I am not trying to jack your thread about it though.

I really don't think there is anything to see here. Yes, not a great record and didn't make it out of Districts. From a distance, I see where that can look bad. But in reality, they do play a loaded schedule (which I admire). Did it work out for them this season...maybe not. However, their district has two team in the top 10 in the state. And they region has 3 teams in the top 10. I can't remember a recent time where we've had any teams in the top 10 and even our top teams barely crack the top 25 from time to time. The region is very rich in talent now that has been on the way up and has finally matured. They also battled a few key injuries and lost a ton to graduation. They threw a brand new PG into the mix (who did a great job). For me, it was the fighting a uphill battle for them this year with a lot a factors that played into it. To this minute, I still think they are a good team and if you put them in just about any other district, they are most likely competing in the region.
