February 25, 201511 yr I guess I never really properly appreciated them in their time. Still don't care for "The Flame" and I'm lukewarm on "I Want You To Want Me." I could listen to "Surrender", "If You Want My Love", "Tonight, It's You", or "Dream Police" all day.

Several of the others as well.

Below is the number of singles to hit #1 in the US for each band listed..I was kind of surprised by this: Bon Jovi - 4 Chicago - 3 Cheap Trick - 1 Duran Duran - 1 Boston - 1 Foreigner - 1 Yes - 0 ELO - 0 Journey - 0 The Cars - 0 Based on this, Bon Jovi and Chicago should definitely be in. But a lot of 1's and 0's for the others may be holding them back. I will also say that the HOF sometimes like to go the other direction and reward innovators and pioneers and not so much commercial success or longevity. I love all of these bands, but none of them were really doing anything new or innovative. I will also add REO Speedwagon, who has 2 US #1 singles.

Except there are plenty of bands in the HOF that don't have any number 1's. It's a completely arbitrary process, and I have no clue on who nominates or votes.

All three were certainly one of a kind and original and doing very different things than the average run of the mill bands. The Cars created a sound never heard of before. ELO added spacey keys and symphonic instrumentation to originally well written rock songs. Yes, throughout their entire career were pioneers of melodic progressive rock with feeling, and even after they gave us so many gems within that genre, they turned around and tossed a completely unique new approach at us with 90125 and Big Generator. Nobody was doing anything like that.
