Can't see anyone challenging Henry for POY. O'Hearn is also a lock. But as many of the best coaches in college basketball have acknowledged(John Wooden and Bobby Knight) some of the best coaching is done in the more challenging programs. One might consider what has been done this year by Coach Taylor at Maysville St. Pat. These kids have far exceeded their abilities, talent, and expectations. Congrats for a great year and I hope they don't allow the 39th District results to slow the program's momentum.

Agreed, however....not sure Jason is going to get the love that he deserves this year, mostly because you have to know the entire history to understand where he is. I think he did good things with what he had, but....is an All A Regional Title worthy by the standard for COY ? Not sure...

 

Couldn't agree more with Henry comment...I have said all along I thought he was undervalued overall in POY discussions

 

Agree with the above on Hinson. Not everyone has the knowledge of the community/ history like I do. Might be biased. Carr and O'Hearn both deserving too.

I can't believe no one is talking about Thompson. I think it's gonna be between he and Henry, but I'm thinking Thompson stands out a little more.

 

Thompson is a good player but not on the level that Dorian Henry is, Dorian leads the state in FG percentage. So I highly disagree when you say Thompson stands out more than Henry.

Many of my Bracken County friends would like nothing better than to see Mason County to lose every game in every sport they play, and they're not shy about telling me so. Big fish in a little pond (39th District) and all that.

 

And when you get right down to it, Mason County is a medium-sized fish in the 10th Region watershed. I like to see the Royals succeed, but like to think that I give proper credit and respect where it's due.:thumb:

If I were voting, I'd vote Henry the Player of the Year & Matt Daniel the Coach of the Year.

I don't see how you couldn't give POY to the kid that's leading the state in FG percentage. But that's just me and my small peanut brain.

POY - Henry, but Ohmer and Crawford are both deserving as well

COY - Brad Carr. Scott finished 8-21 last season and Carr has his team sitting at 15-11 and having a shot at the region title. Not to mention that his Scott team is at a major height disadvantage in almost every game. The guy can coach!

Carson Williams did not win KABC 8th Region Player of the Year.

 

Hayden Hawes of Oldham County did.

 

Just to clarify, like I seem to do every year at this time, to be eligible to win KABC Regional Player of the Year you must meet the following criteria.

 

1. Be a Senior

2. At least one of your coaches, head or assistant, must be a member of the KABC.
