He's damaged goods at this point . I dont think he's right bewtixt the ears . Be lucky to get 70 games out of him before some muscle pull appears .. again

He got his money and quit caring. Remember when he used to curse after striking out and showed emotion? Not after his 250 million bucks got signed! I say .303 BA, 11 home runs, 52 RBI, 112 walks and lots of time off nursing his injuries.

Before his Injuries and big contract he was a heck of a player .

I seriously question if some of you actually believe what you post. Outside of last season, Votto has put up outstanding numbers his entire career. In a down season, shortened by numerous injuries he still posted nearly a .400 OBP. The guy is ridiculously good at the plate.

That's 3 straight years of decline. The decline in slugging has to be a particular concern--especially given the length of his contract.

His contract length will be an issue no doubt. Just pointing out the doom and gloom about how he's terrible, how he quit once he got paid, etc. is ridiculous.

I don't get the people that still question him mentally. He had one mental break down after losing his father. Depression and mental issues are very real. I feel bad that he has to live with the fan base that holds that over him forever. Most of those people are also the ones that don't realize how valuable it is to not make outs though. I guess those people would rather have Ryan Howard than Votto.

Comments like these (there are plenty more floating around out there) make me wonder if people take the time to actually know who the players are. If you have listened to ANYTHING about Joey Votto, whether it be from players, coaches, etc. they all spout off the same thing. He is a hard worker and dedicated. Forget the money, it's not yours, mine or anyone on this boards money so who cares.

 

I'm gonna rant a bit...

 

The pessimism surrounding this guy is astounding. I don't live under a rock, I know he has had his struggles mentally and emotionally. But, we are not too far removed from him putting up mammoth numbers. Fact is he is a heck of a ball player and the Reds NEED him if they want to be successful. We can gripe all day long about his contract, but that is how these guys are getting paid these days until we have another Billy Beane type movement around the league.

 

I think he has a stellar year and can't wait to watch and would much rather spend my time talking about what he might be able to accomplish this year instead of throwing in the towel before the season starts.

His career arc seems to be eerily similar to Joe Mauer's...

A bit of a side note: This thread has really gotten me in the mood for baseball season. Not much longer!

Mauer hit 28 HR's once and his next highest total is 13... I think Votto has a lot more natural power than Mauer and it's not really close.
